Grand Final's held around the nation instead of MCG?

Should be played at the ground of the team that lost their PF by the least amount.

Everyone in that thread ignored the infinetly better and preffered option of a night grand final because "we don't need to change tradition"
Night GF is a pretty terrible concept though.

all football should be played at night. daytime atmosphere sucks
I'm not sure the atmosphere at an afternoon GF is in question. Afternoon footy provides us the best conditions for slick footy, free from evening issues like dew. Saturday 2pm is the perfect weekend footy slot, plus it allows you to still have Saturday night free for socialising.

Sorry for being a bit late to the party, but here's my opinion:

*If the GF is Sydney vs GWS, it should be played at ANZ Stadium.
*Once the new Perth stadium is opened and it's an Eagles-Dockers GF, it should be played there.
*If the GF is Crows vs Power, it should be played at Adelaide Oval.

If it's any other matchup, play it at the G. (this includes Lions vs GCS, as the Gabba would simply not be suitable [ditto Metricon], and Eagles vs Dockers until the new stadium is built)

I recon it should only be moved one day if,
Eagles V freo at new Perth stadium
Lions V suns at gabba if could upgrade to fit 70k+
Sydney V gws at anz if was redeveloped or bulldozed and rebuilt in better location.
Crows V port at Adelaide oval but because of the historic aspect will never be large enough for a GF.
So basically if its an all state decider it should or could be in that same state.
Likelihood of these teams meeting is slim although could happen this year. When stadium deal runs out you would think the afl will be a bit more open minded but for now they wouldn't give to shits about other scenarios because they be dead by the time it comes around

Not exactly a solution, but bring in State of Origin with the home state hosting the grand final. If we can get it up and running with a good following would give other states a taste of a 'grand final' event.

Or get the nab cup actually interesting

Similar to MLB's All Star game where the winning conference gets home advantage later in the year during the World Series?
Winning SoO side gets to host the GF later in the year?

Nah, I mean the highest ranked SoO side hosts the SoO GF

This would probably be based on percentage, but that's not the worst idea

All you hear is players and coaches talking about top 2 to guarantee two home finals. Yet we still have the anomaly of the MCG being the GF venue.

Competition will never be truly national until this is fixed

In the 25.5 seasons of the Australian Football league, 16 of the 25 Grand Finals have featured at least 1 non-Victorian team.

25 Grand Finals
9 between two Victorian teams
3 between two non-Victorian teams
13 between a Victorian and non-Victorian team

Just over half have handed a clear home ground advantage to a Victorian side, and based on this season's ladder positions that number is likely to increase. Of those 13, six have come in a situation where the travelling team was placed higher on the ladder at the conclusion to the regular season. By the higher on the ladder theory 9 of 25 grand finals should have been played outside of Victoria, or 36%. Funnily enough this is very similar to the percentage of non-Victorian teams in pre-GC/GWS AFL (37.5%).

All of this is moot because there's a contract in place - anyone know the specifics of the MCC / AFL contract regarding Grand Finals?

An AFL grand final being held anywhere other than the MCG would be shithouse.

I would like it shared around, in theory, but if a non Vic side got to host its own GF, I think its too big of an advantage.

Tbh, I would feel a bit funny about flogging a traveling side at a Perth GF.

The advantage is nullified somewhat at the MCG with so many sides based in Melbourne getting the chance to play there atleast semi regularly... people really dont call the MCG a fortress for any Melb side.

For the record, no side has yet hosted its own NFL Super Bowl.
