OK, I know 99.9% of non - Saints supporters love to hate Stephen Milne. But has anyone seen a bigger dog act than Grant Thomas, his former coach coming out on the eve of Milne's 200th and saying he wanted to sack him 4 years ago?

Love him or hate him, at least let him celebrate his 200th.

Grant Thomas should be very ashamed.
RICMEL,
I suggest you get a copy of the original interview on footy confidential, then put his words into the right context only thing with Thomas is he tells the truth as he see`s it , most people would prefer to hear a good lie rather than a bad truth

He was interviewed on Sport 927 this morning about his comments.

Specifically he was asked whether he thinks Milne has improved since the time he said he would have sacked him. When he said yes he has, he was then asked was he wrong in wanting to sack him to which he replied, "no - I was not wrong - at the time".

To me that sums G Thomas up - incapable of admitting he was wrong.

I hate Milne just like most other footy supporters, but i hate Grant Thomas even more.

Taking pot-shots at his former players and just about anyone else in the AFL is pretty pathetic. And he does it all cause he's desperate to remain relevant in the AFL world. It's not really working though.
+ 1 from me:thumbsu:

Most non-Saints fans hate Milne (which doesn't mean he's a bad player), but Thomas is IMO one of the biggest w***ers to have coached in many years. He wishes he was still relevant, but isn't.

It was nice that he got us there, that's big in itself ;)

The timing of Thomas was poor at the least.

But watching Footy Classified last year the whole time the panel was asking him to apologize to Milne for underrating him. He would simply say wait until September and I will be the first to apologize.

He is one big game away from proving himself, but I have to say he is yet to do it.

I hope he does, what he did to us in 2005 was unbelievable, but September is where legends are born.

To be fair, he did concede earlier this week in an interview with the Age, that Milne had matured as a player since he coached. Just a difference in the way the two papers choose to report things IMO.

I agree but it's players like him who get you to the big games so what do you do? GT was wrong plain and simple.

He's shot himself in the foot with the Milne comments, as anyone can see that Lyon has been able to get good service out of the same player.

But it's not surprising, as this is the same bloke who said that Luke Hodge wasn't doing enough(he's far and away our best performed player) this year.

Grant Thomas just seems like the sort of guy that is knowledgeable and smart enough to do and say so much better, yet he somehow get's drawn into saying things that I don't think he actually believes. It's like he can't find it in himself to go back on his previous thoughts.
Strange cat.

 Can't see a problem with that...he did want to sack him.
The only problem is that he can't admit it would have been a mistake to do so.

Where is the mistake? he said he wanted to get rid of him as he doesn't perform in big games, finals and interstate majority of time. Lets see how he goes with spotlight, 200th game, top4 side, interstate trip I'm tipping 1 goal or less and <10 touches.

nah pretty shocking timing from Thomas, speak your mind, but he could of worded it with much more class that he has here.

arrogant, chip on his shoulder, can't let go.

don't like the way he's handled this at all

You'd be all calling Thomas a hypocrite if he blew sunshine about Milne ...

mate all he had to say was "congrats."

If he wants to continue talking about how he would have sacked him and that he didn't rate him, do it at a more appropriate time. Don't shyte all over the guys 200th.

Who wants to hear a string of insincere "congratulations" ...Thomas was asked because they knew he'd be "honest" with his opinion ...he was ...

where is the mistake? you are kidding right? He is the best performing pocket player going around and is keeping us in the hunt in the absence of Roo.
Should Collingwood dump Leon Davis?

don't see a lot wrong with the comments. and to people saying lyon has got better service out of milne than thomas:

2002-2006
102 games
212 goals

2007-2010
80 games
164 goals

looks pretty similar to me. and he still hasn't been sighted in a final.

Glad to finally see tacit approval of Davis and this is what I think too. Without Leon we wouldn't have been top 4 last year so wouldn't even really have had a shot at the big show. Small forwards struggle a bit under finals pressure, but if they do fire they'll win it for you.

Saints trolling and Milne hatred aside, Thomas could've saved these comments until after this week.

your right, not much difference between his performance under the two coaches, just shows ya how big of a fool grant thomas was.

finals record is whats prob holding him back from being a st.kilda great. but having said that forward pockets in gereral find it difficult in big games.

I enjoy Grant, don't agree with most of his views but it's refreshing to have someone in the media that speaks his mind.

:thumbsu: While I agree with this but most people can't handle the truth from people like Grant and Acker.
I personally hate the rehearsed club statements and sycopantic responses to 'hard hitting' questions most players and coaches give.

Bottom line is a bloke has played "200" games, 200 games is a fair milestone by any stretch of the imagination and if GT can't find it within himself to congratulate him then that is his problem, I'm sure Milne could not care less what GT says anyway...so we all move on.

the only hole in this is that leigh brown has played 200 games
