So that is 11/16 teams who have won a premiership in 20 years.

Richmond - 0
Melbourne - (Grand Final Appearance 2000)
St. Kilda - (Grand Final Appearance 1997, 2009)
Western Bulldogs - 0
Fremantle - 0

I understand with Richmond & Fremantle, both teams have been shit, fair point they have not won a premiership.

But what about St. Kilda & Western Bulldogs, both teams have been up the top for a while and there is nothing to show for it.

St. Kilda fans talk about how great Stephen Milne is, but exactly what Thomas said, he hasn't performed on the big stage and the Saints have really suffered for it. St. Kilda DESERVE a premiership for their consistant performances in the last 7-8 years, yet Stephen Milne coughed up when it counted.

So he is not one of the greatest of all time. He is good - great, but until he makes his mark on history, he will always stay that way.

Got absolutely nothing to do with what the post is about. I don't care what Thomas thinks of Milne, he could well be right.....it is about the appropriateness of his comments the day before Milne plays his 200th.

Be similar to Danny Frawley coming out on the eve Richo's last game and saying he was a petulant tosser who was his own worst enemy.

You cannot put all the blame on Stephen Milne. The coach has said he is to blame for and Stephen was not the only one that did not kick straight.

Ah, GT! Footy Classified is better for his participation. I think he was a limited coach as he was player and some of his views and the way he sometimes puts them accross bear that out. I'd still prefer to watch someone with an opinion, the balls to express it and if called upon support it, even If I disagree with it, than what most of his fellow commentators do. There are plenty of fence sitters scared to offend anyone within the industry. At least Thomas has a crack.

Anyway, in line with the above, GT has said many times he wanted to sack Milne. I don't see why someone who preached values and team orientation would surprise anyone with having issues with Milne. On top of that GT has correctly pointed to Milne's finals efforts.

At the same time, these type of comments also give an insight into why he fell out with the powers at St. Kilda and why he was sacked.

I find Thomas hilarious. He just doesn't give a damn who he offends. He just blatantly says what he thinks. He's great for the media. As others have said, we have enough PC company-line-towers in the AFL. He calls it as he sees it. He canes the AFL administration every week for one things or another. I don't care if he's right or wrong about anything or whether it's insensitive or inappropriate. I like what he stands for. I don't think he even does it to get attention. I think he just can't help but say what he thinks.

If Milne gets upset about this, he is backing up what Thomas is saying. It's in his hands. People suggesting this would upset Milne on the eve of his 200th need to consider this.

Riewoldt was heavily targeted during the 09' GF and that left the door wide open for Milne and Schieder, who both failed when it counted.

At the end of the day, they got there and it was entirely up to Milne & Schieder to put the nails in the Geelong coffin - you know, since they are the actual players.

If those two players hadn't of screwed their chances, the Saints would be premiers, no doubt about it.

I enjoy Grant, don't agree with most of his views but it's refreshing to have someone in the media that speaks his mind.

I feel the same. I don't agree with everything he says, but I like that he's willing to throw ideas out there and not just be a vanilla fence-sitter.

He is one big game away from proving himself, but I have to say he is yet to do it.
I hope he does, what he did to us in 2005 was unbelievable, but September is where legends are born.

Aints that the truth.

Any criticism levelled at Milne regarding big games has been earnt. No better example than the 09 grannie.

You see the big big names copping criticism if they dont boot 5 in a big game..or dont seem to be getting as much of it as per "normal"...coz we get used to seeing standut performances..but often they do a hellova lot more than given credit and that grannie was a classic example. The spotlight afterwards turned to bigger names than him but didnt need to.

The only thing that saved Milne from public execution by their faithful was that he could hide behind poor performances from other pockets like Steve Johnson and Schneider...and to a lesser extent Leon Davis and Didak over previous weeks.

Whilst people were talking about Riewoldt not having as big an influence he was still damn good and created a shitload of chances when i watched the replay..despite being blanketed which he was always going to cop, enough ball and chances were handed to their small fwds but they were neither front and centre of Riewoldt or fumbled or just butchered anything that was coughed up.

Their captain had a truly sensational finals series and surely their coach knew that blokes like Milne would need to contribute a LOT in the big one up against the best organised defence in the game.

You're 100% right...just one good game from a bloke like Milne could/would have totally changed the outcome and he had ample opportunity...he just turned to shit. Whilst Johnson (and Schneider) were also hopeless in the same grannie both had already proven they could perform with the spotlight on and didnt need to prove anything...just put it down to a crappy games from them.

Thomas at least speaks his mind and in this day and age we NEED more...u dont need to like what anyone says or agree with it. Fact is he has been an AFL coach with a reasonable record and knows the ins and outs of a club and its players. Whenever anyone says something even remotely out of the box these days there is a tendency to jump on them like they're idiots with some sort of blabbering disease...ITS THE CRAP WE WANT TO HEAR ABOUT ALL CLUBS.

Its bad enough people jump on the players simply for saying anything..ex players and coaches earning a living within the media need to be sponsored into saying MORE instead of the vanilla shit we get fed.

If the shit sticks wear it.

The Milne interview was tragic and showed why Grant holds that opinion of him, "the crowd are snipers and should think about their mums and dads when they say hurtful things, Micky hurt my feewings.. waaa waaa waaa"..

News flash squib.. you are the sniper.. and projecting your own pathetic tactics onto everyone else only confirms why you are such a choker.

This post makes no sense whatsoever...
Grant Thomas criticised Milne on his performances in big games, the Milne interview was primarily about his conflict with Mick Malthouse, so how do the quotes that you added bear any weight toward his performances on match day?

Also, how do "projecting his own pathetic tactics onto everyone else" affect whether or not he performs in big games?

Don't make nonsensical trolls of Milne simply because he criticises the actions of your coach

It's not the point of the thread. I agree Milne has not performed in big games. Much of what Thomas said is right (though he had 6 years to sack him, why wait until after he is no longer coach).

But lets say you are asked to give a speech at your mates wedding. You know he has slept around on his bride a time or two.

Do you choose to announce this on his wedding day?

I don't care what Thomas thinks of Milne. My point is, why shyte on someones 200th.

This thread is not about whether Milne is a good player or not. It is about someone disrespecting a significant player milestone.

We can only take it one week at a time.

It's the nature of the guy, bitter and petty. Besides which I find most of his comments completely nonsensical and contradictory. Thomas was a GOC at best and if under the previous administration I was looking to blame someone for our performances interstate and in finals, the head coach would be at the top of the list. Any good will I had towards Thomas has slowly ebbed away. With his sniping he does not want St.kilda to be successful. He still thinks Luke Ball is an elite midfielder though:rolleyes:

yet he somehow get's drawn into saying things that I don't think he actually believes. It's like he can't find it in himself to go back on his previous thoughts.
Strange cat.

Would fit in well in Bay 13 at times.
