Yo yo yo I need to upgrade the old video card in my PC and have instantly come to the conclusion they are overpriced. Probably due to mining. I have stern principles and will not waste more money on computers! The cpu is a 3570k and I plan to keep it for another 5 years. I have compared the graphics cards all against one another and have found huge differences in price in regards to performance. My current card is a GTX 560. The plan was always to upgrade to a 1070 but I'm not paying $300 for a 3yr old middle tier card.

GTX 1070 = $280 second hand. $50 too expensive!
GTX 1060 6GB = $200 second hand. Waay too expensive!!
RX580 4gb = $200 new. Overpriced!
RX 590 8gb = $285 new. Overpriced!

For some reason the below cards are a lot cheaper.

Vega 56 = $180 second hand. 20% faster than 1060 as well as cheaper
GTX 780 or 780ti = $80/$100 second hand. Best I've found so far, faster than 1060 and is less than half the price.. Only issue less vram and uses more power

Ideally I don't want to spend more than $120 second hand. Is the 780ti my best bet?

See if any officeworks stores have them. You might get a better price for a brand new thing

I'm not sure the GTX 780 would be quicker than a GTX 1060. See https://www.gpucheck.com/compare/nv...6700k-4-00ghz-vs-intel-core-i7-3770k-3-50ghz/
Assuming it works, a second hand GTX 780 is a pretty good card for <$100, albeit a 7 year old design, hot and power hungry compared with newer generation cards but for $100 it should perform well enough if you have a PSU with enough juice to feed it.
