Great coaching moments

Can’t mention names but spoke to an assistant coach recently who changed clubs ... Talked about the difference between how coach A over ruled everything (no success) and coach B told his assistants to run everything their way at the start of the season (multiple premierships) ... Was amazing to hear ....

Leigh Matthews telling Akermanis to get at the f**king feet of Lynch in the 2002 Grand Final was a damn good coaching move.

Hell, playing Aker at all ended up being a great move, despite the fact that he came into the match with a stuffed groin.

Second the nomination on Page 1. Qtr time in 2009 GF. There comes a moment when u need to make a serious decision and put your season on the line.
Hayes was off the chain totally. Murdered poor Joel Corey in 1st Qtr (who ended up having 3 good qtrs himself after the coaching move when he was taken off Hayes).
The natural response from most coaches would be to give a tagging job to a lesser player. He didnt take that risk and sacrificed the game of a reigning brownlow medallist just for a tagging job. Another qtr like that from Hayes may have made the difference.
Ran each other around for 3 qtrs and by games end neither would have figured in top 5-10 on the field, with Hayes a runaway norm smith favorite at qtr time.
The Hayes/Bartel matchup ended up a sideline issue in that GF, but decided the flag by cancelling each other out. Notorious big game players now forced to defend against each other, and the best gameday coaching move i can recall influencing the strongest GF matchup in modern day footy.
