I have seen some great movies in my life, but tonight i saw one of the best movies i have ever seen - The Green Mile.
Tom Hanks is in it, and it is very much a Forest Gump type movie, in its a story about 1 man, and it doesn't really have any complications in it like most movies do, but it touches you in another way.
If you haven't seen it, i truly recommend it. It is one of the greatest.

Being the type of person i am, i had to do a list of my top 10 movies ever:
1. Seven
2. Silence of the Lambs
3. Braveheart
4. The Green Mile
5. Apollo 13
6. Saving Private Ryan
7. Philadelphia
8. Schidlers List
9. Forrest Gump
10. The Godfather

As you can see from that list i rate Tom Hanks as a great actor - he stars in 5 of those top 10 movies (The Green Mile, Apollo 13, Saving Private Ryan, Philadelphia and Forrest Gump).

What movies do you guys like??

The Shawshank (sp?) Redemption is the best I have ever seen.

And a movie that a lot of people haven't seen but which I thought was just brilliant was In The Name Of The Father, a movie about the English/IRA tensions.

Most people will ridicule me for this, but Pulp Fiction was something from left field, which i just loved and certainly a movie that usually no-one forgets.

I have never seen the Shawshank Redemption but from what i have heard it is great.
I have never heard a bad word about it, and on the Internet Movie Database, it is ranked the second best movie ever behind the Godfather.
No, this is not the opinion of one movie critic, but over 40 000 people voted it number 2, so it must be very good.

I'm kind of over Forest Gump, but I still watch it just for the soundtrack.

Silence of the Lambs and Good Will Hunting are another two that get me every time. I can almost recite them now, but still have to watch every time they're on TV or on hire.

Anyway, it'll be back to the video store for the next 160 or so days until the footy's back

Angelman, we concur yet again. I loved Gilbert Grape and I wept when they burned their own house down. I watch anything with Johnny Depp in it as it could be great too.

Cider house rules is similar (same director) and I saw it on video at the weekend. Not quite as good though

Some more 'off beat' ones

Don Juan de Marco
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
War of the Roses
The Aristocats
Mad Max series (Including Braveheart)
Guess who's coming to dinner
Little Voice
Secrets and Lies
Brassed Off
Duel

Worst one
The english patient. I endured it but didn't get it. People walked out when I saw it at the Rivoli

Angel's top ten
1. Whats eating Gilbert Grape ?
2. 2001 : a Space Odyssey
3. Lawrence of Arabia
4. Saving Private Ryan
5. Pulp Fiction
6. The Third Man
7. Star Wars
8. Taxi Driver
9. Schindler's List
10. Titanic

And if they really wanted to popularise our great game overseas why not have a top class film made about it. Not a remake of 'the club' but something between combining 'year of the dog' and 'strictly ballroom'. They'd have to choose essendon but I'd live with that if it was a great film

My favorite- by a mile, is The Silence of the Lambs. Unfortunatly, the storyline going to be butchered, bwhen they make Hannibal into a movie- the only Thomas Harris book I haven't finished- a great dissapointment!!

My other favs are (no paticular order):

Laurence of Arabia
Star Wars
Schindler's List
Saving Private Ryan
1984
Chariots of Fire
Ben Hur
Bridge on the River Kwai
Ferris Bueller's Day Of

Thanks Pess

Gilbert Grape is easily me favourite movie of all time, its not particulary spectacular, its not about anything really big deal, it dosn't have a huge budget or amazing special effects.

The reason this film is my favourite of all time is that out of all the millions of characters that have ever been in movies, The Gilbert Grape character is the most that is like me personally. In fact Gilbert Grape is so much like me I had to pinch myself when I first saw the film.

"how come this guy is so like me ?" I thought to myself - I thought they just didn't make those kinds of movies - not in Hollywood anyway.

a pleasant surprise and a truly great movie.

Bit of a Hitchcock fan I take it Drakey ?

What do you think of Vertigo ? - I like it alot but it loses its way about half way through and goes rather flat I reckon but hey, its worth it just for a few more close-ups on Kim Novak !

And "the Birds" ? - this is the one that really divides Hitchcock fans, most think its Hitchcocks worst movie because it is so gratuitous but I love it - probably because it IS so mindless ...

At the moment my favourite movies are Good Will Hunting and, although it may sound funny, Boogie Nights. Boogie Nights is a great film about the pr0n industry in the 70s and early 80s, it's long but it's humourous, clever and has some disturbing scenes. It's got everything!
P.S. Heather Graham aka. Rollergirl is a fox!

BSA

I have never been able to get into Vertigo. I don't now why but it just doesn't grab me.

I like The Birds & get a laugh out of Rod Taylor trying to act.

Rear Window is my fav. Grace Kelly hubada hubada.

I also luv the scene in North by Northwest when Cary Grant is getting shot at by the plane thru the corn fields.

You got to luv Hitchcock, even if he was a woman hating nutter. He made some great flicks.

Two movies I just didn't like, thought they were ****ing tedious, were Fight club and Forrest Gump.

Here's my fav's in no order:

Schindlers List (I've seen every doco. made on this subject, that's why I was surprised when this rocked me so much, cried like a ****in baby at the end, still do.)
Shawschank (Morgan you are a true ****ing legend, even made Robin Hood entertaining).
Braveheart (best damn battle scenes ever filmed IMHO).
Privat Ryan (best WWII movie ever, just shaded A Bridge Too Far and Guns of Navarone)
Star Wars 123 (who didn't love them?)
Titanic (I'm not ashamed to admit to this one, unlike alot of people who where it as a badge of honour that "I hated it". Truly great audiovisual experience in the theatre, as well as a top yarn.)
RAN (Have only seen this once but great story and great battle scenes).
Citizen Kane (classic)
Ben Hur (mega classic)
The Firm (probly one of the best endings I've ever seen, truly great yarn.)
Silence of the Lambs (Hopkins and Foster just electric. Some dickheads on "Aint it cool news" claimed the sequeal doesn't need Foster, yeah like Rocky 2 didn't need Sly.)
Gladiator (great battle scene, great fight scenes, great performance from big Russ.)

Hey by the way, here I am sitting at my desk at Southbank, just up from Crown, freely able to get in and out of the office. DAMN WIMPY BLOODY S11, start a descent riot ya dicks, I don't wanna have to come to work. Seattle people must be laughing at your wimpy efforts, you brought shame on the Aussie name, CHAOS people we want CHAOS

.

Cheers.

RED & BLACK BACK to BACK 2001!

The Empire Strikes back is the greatest film I have ever seen.

Reservoir Dogs is the best Tarantino film.

Hitchcocks's Rear Window is a classic piece of cinema.

For those that were lucky enough to see Toy Story 2 (don't laugh), you probably witnessed the best film of 1999.

There are so many others, but it is pointless to list them all.

I must admit I love Boogie Nights too, like that Sydney fan. Every movie should have the song "Jesse's Girl" in it.

My Favorite is Shallow Grave, the movie before Trainspotting & much better by far.
The Green Mile much better than Hurricane
Silence of the Lambs
Natural Born Killers
Shawshank Redemption
Usual Suspects
Sixth Sense
Dogma
Dusk till Dawn
Freeway & Freeway 2 the latter the better
As people will probably figure out, I love sick movies.
