Yes but I think it was established long ago that your opinions on great guitarists is lacking in logic, talent, taste and a little reality. Next you'll be telling everyone that Lobby Lloyde, he'd have to be one of your "boys" wouldn't he, the guy who's solo's were about as melodic as someone strangling a cat, was the unheralded master guitarist of this country.

Now you are pushing the boundaries, you arrogant little prick. I had the pleasure of sitting in on some jam session's with Lobby and he was a great man, god bless his soul. He could play anything your idol's could play but chose to push the boundaries into new and unexplored territories, something that you and your just as dumb mate JW have absolutely no understanding of.

If you mean my taste was established by you, how in the hell could that count for anything?

oooooooooooooohhh this is getting heated. I have the upmost respect for you views on music cats56, therefore i make a motion to the mods to close this thread, even if its just to piss 73 and jw (sorry guys) right off, by not letting them have the last say. :D

you know it makes sense. ;)

I agree with you nicky, i really don't like to disrespect the mod's on this board, but 73 and jw's arrogance was getting beyond a joke. I'd rather put my limited time and energies into the poster's i have respect for.

Who in the hell do you think you are? Did you actually read my post? I listed Porter, Lennon, i don't rate McCartney up there with Davies.
No I didn't, obviously.
Joni Mitchell, ha,ha, what institution did you just escape from? You have about as much credibility as Moron 73.
You're an idiot. Thats all that needs to be said.
You are obviously a mate of Moron 73's and suffer from the same narcissism disorder that he does.
You're an idiot. Thats all that needs to be said. Sorry son, you are a fool.

they're obviously jealous of your knowledge and are trolling you. ;)

And with a comment like that, you are obviously stupid.

For what its worth, I also thought Mark73's comment about Lloyde was out of line. He was an ordinary player, he's right about that, but his contribution to Aus rock should never be undersold.

Blah blah blah blah blah, you're jealous and the fact you didn't pull 73 up is more evidence. :p:cool:

Since you're so up to speed on all the ol' time greats, oh and they're all your mates :o, have a chat to Mike Rudd and Trevor Young about what a great bloke good old Lobby was. And if I recall, his great mate Billy Thorpe listed his best 3 Aussie guitarists of all time as Emmanuel, Jim Kelly & Les Stacpool. Odd that there was no mention of his ol' buddy, huh?

Just give it up mate, if you play with it any harder it'll fall off. Didn't your parents ever teach you that?
If you mean my taste was established by you, how in the hell could that count for anything?
I would never imply anything regarding taste was established where you're concerned.

Any early Fairport Convention album is worth seeking out, especially the ones with Sandy Denny singing. Something like 'Liege and Leaf' or 'Unhalfbricking' are good places to begin.

'I Want To See the Bright Lights Tonight' is a must listen as far as his solo work goes.

TR, The 2 Fairport Convention albums d14 suggested are essential, although Thompson's vocals are in their infancy, Sandy Denny is brilliant.

From the Richard & Linda period, "Shoot Out The Lights" is a masterpiece. Contain's some of the most heart-wrenching song's ever recorded. Very few artist's have ever reached this level of emotion. "I Want To See The Bright Lights" & "Pour Down Like Silver" are recommended as well.

From his solo period "Old Kit Bag" & "Mock Tudor" are must gets. "Across a Crowded Room" , " Rumour And Sigh" & "Mirror Blue" next. Although over produced, "Daring Adventures" & "Amnesia" are also recommended, i particularly like "Amnesia". Also worthwhile is the box set "Watching The Dark", which contains a few rarities, alt. & live versions.

Would loved to have listed A.Chilton, if he didn't have such a couldn't give a rat's attitude, and could focus his genius, who knows?
Cheers for the info guys :thumbsu:

I picked up I Want To See The Bright Lights Tonight a couple of days ago. Haven't given it a spin yet as I've been listening to Dylan constantly in preparation for seeing him this week :)

c56, if only Chilton wasn't so prone to self-destruction who knows how highly he'd be regarded. Have you had a chance to read the Big Star book yet? I bought it a while back and got stuck straight into it. Very informative and enjoyable read it was :thumbsu:

Have you given "Bright Lights" a spin yet, TR? How was Dylan? Dylan probably is the greatest, but for me Davies has more capacity to take me places and i prefer his song structure.

Actually i purposely don't listen to an artist/band before a gig, somehow makes the songs appear a bit fresher.

Have you listened to any Townes Van Zandt? An absolute genius, who the great Steve Earle describes as "the greatest songwriter who ever lived." I have no doubt you would have a great appreciation of his brilliance.

Must get around to reading the Big star book soon.

How was the Wilco gig?, while i didn't get there i did get the "Kicking Television " album.
