imagine being locked up for life without hearing music for years and then that gets blasted out .
Lucky it wasn't nowadays, they might have had to listen to Cardi B or some other autotune specialist. Or worse still Lizzo!
They probably wouldn't have wanted to leave after Lizzo.

I'm gonna go with something a bit left field and completely different from most of the posts in this thread...David Novak from Polish Club.

Just check out this cover from earlier in the year.

Roy Orbison. Hands down the best singer I have ever heard. Can make you feel every second of the tragedy that his life became.

One of the rock anecdotes that makes me smile a lot is from the formation of the Travelling Wilburies. The band had arguably the greatest singer-songwriter of all time in it, a f***ing Beatle ffs, and two other superstars in their own right.
Apparently when they all sat down for their first get together and rehearsal, the other four were basically star struck looking at each other going "holy sh*t how good is this - we have ROY ORBISON in our band!" That tells you the sort of esteem he was held in.
Based on the comments on this video even Elvis himself said he wished he could sing like Roy.

In a more modern context, I think the guy from DMAs has an absolutely incredible voice.

It's cliched but special mention to Kurt Cobain. Could make your spine feel exactly what he was trying to convey in each song.

Rachelle Ferell's lips are the singers equivalent to Dizzy Gillespie's, Trumpeter's cheeks.

I just love the Fat bass sound in this song.

Great singer, amazing voice!

One vocalist who I've always thought was a little under rated is Bryan Ferry.

Whether it was the early glam rock days of Roxy Music

the crooner period of the early 80's

or his solo career

to me he always had a beautiful soft soulful voice.

Will always be my favourite male vocalist.

******* stupid game

Heres another from the same album. Best version of Summertime ever I reckon.
Great album if you can track it down. I’ve had it on vinyl for 30 years, but well worn now!
Robert Crumb artwork awesome also.View attachment 995009
Nice! But if you're going for something by Janis, this is her masterpiece:

Grace Slick had an incredible voice too:
