Virgil Donati used to be the drummer for Southern Sons (remember them) but he has gone on to become one of the best drummers in the world.
This is from a concert with Steve Vai.

Used to watch him play with Loose Change at The Grainstore in the 80s back when he was playing his trademark Sonor kit.
Plays Pearl now I'm sure.
Lots of great jazz drummers out there I like listening too.
And Grindcore metal drummers are insane with their feet.
I grew up with Bonham and Peart so I love those two but lately I've been listening to jazz drumming legend Max Roach.
This drummer doesn't have the chops of a Buddy Rich but he plays so musically same with Jack Dejohnette and Jimmy Cobb.
That is why Bonham is still revered today.
His tastefulness oh and he had the most organic drum sound.(knocks top off)
Loved the jazz rock drummers in the 70s Cobham being my main influence.
I've forgotten a few giants.
