So, 2003....when the Brisbane lads had played in the previous 2 GF's and Voss didn't even play in the match??

Black had 36, Aker was quiet, Lappin had 33 and Voss wasn't even there.

Judd had 17 (but kicked 5), Cousins had 35 and Kerr was as quiet as Aker. Banfield and Fletcher killed em, guess they were wrapt that Vossy had a rest.

You are having problems understanding a midfield is 4 players which comprise of one ruckman and three onballers

Like any discussion about all champions like Judd Voss hird Buckley aka cousins Macleod Fyfe swan Kerr lappin black bonts Daicos Gaj Bartel it’s fairly close and it’s a debate on who is better on the day

But brissy lacked in the 4 th midfielder being the ruckman Keating and charman were just serviceable whilst Cox was a gun there simply is no comparison between cox and who brissy had

If the thread talked about the 3 onballers only you may go in brissies favor you may not but it would be close but add that ruckman and the debate turns well and truly in the eagles favor it cannot be debated brissies rucks weren’t that good

Beat them twice in 2004. Beat them at the GABBA when they had VOSS & without COUSINS.

At this point they had won the premiership thrice.

They had a far superior defence & offence too.

Eagles midfield was the shiz nizz.

We beat em plenty of times as well (even this year) but in the ones that mattered (eg. not H+A) the Lions mids were the best at it

Apologies i saw that but missed. I still think West Coast had the better midfield which he is contesting. I definitely wouldnt claim they had a better team.

They needed to hold it together after winning the premiership. Not go spazzo. Hence they became the template of what not to do after winning a grand final.

Lions current squad has been scary for some time now. 7 straight seasons in the 8. 3 straight Grand Finals for 2 flags. Prelim x 2. Semis x 2. Should make it 4 grand finals in a row again like the 2000's. I reckon they'll 3 peat again this season then more than likely a hawks-suns grand final in 2027.

Joel Corey before Cameron Ling. It kind of gets forgotten that he was a 2x All Australian and a BnF winner during that run. Hell of a workhorse and contested player. Ran hard all day (both ways). He was so often the release handballer to set the stars free.

I would agree that Gawn v cox probs goes in favor of Gawn

But petracca brayshaw Oliver v Judd cousins Kerr isn’t even a discussion those eagles would have torn them apart

But at least you are now realising that the midfield is 4 including a ruckman and 3 on ballers

That is the reason the eagles had the best midfield all 4 including the ruckman was a superstar and it’s very hard to find 3 onballers and a ruckman Brissies onballers were unbelievable So we’re eagles but the tipping point was the far superior ruckman Brissy had also rans as a ruckman

Yet, the much vaunted WCE midfield team boasting 'big Cox', Judd, Cousins and Kerr only managed one premiership.

I am well aware Judd & Cousins left WCE in 2007. Surely though you have to take into account cohesion. The Brisbane and Geelong mids stuck together for many years. The WCE midfield imploded.

And IMO Brad Ottens was a damn good ruckman

As good as they saints were they failed when it mattered most. Should have won both Grand Finals tbh. Poor kicking and a bad bounce cost you. On the flip side of that coin should have lost the prelim in 09 and the qualifier against Geelong a dodgy free kick or no kick perhaps got you over the line. It's a results based business in the sporting world. Only premiers are considered amongst the greats.

Headland had half a good season in 02, rest was very mediocre at the Lions. That half a season was brilliant though, finished with 16 Brownlow votes from it.

That forced Freo to pay up when he demanded a trade home. Showed flashes at Freo, but never hit that consistent purple patch again like he did on '02

Keating was known at the 'September Specialist' for Brisbane. Went to a different level in finals and was a big part of those flag teams.

No other midfield had the complete 4 due to the dominant ruckman what other midfield had 3 outstanding onballers and a superior ruckman

I think most neutrals put this midfield equal with Voss, Acker, Black, Lappin.

Both freakishly good midfield groups.
