Pretty sure i read or heard recently that Heath Shaw playing finals last year broke the record for most senior games by a family.

On SM-G955F using BigFooty.com mobile app
Heath Shaw 262 games,
His brother Rhys 237 games,
His uncle Tony 313 games,
Uncle Neville 43 games,
His dad Ray 146 games

That’s 1001 games all up.
No idea if it’s a record, but’s an amazing achievement regardless.
The AFL Record Season (Guide) 2017 had for FAMILY COMBINATIONS - MOST GAMES:
Shaw 976 games (1001 games)
Ablett 970 games (984 games)
Pannam/Richards 939 games
Daniher 828 games (851 games)
Rankin/O'Donnell 787 games
Cloke 741 games (751 games)
Madden 710 games

Figures adjusted to include 2017 games.

The 1928, 1929 & 1930 Collingwood Premiership sides had three sets of brothers in each team. Syd & Gordon Coventry, Albert & Harry Collier plus Frank & Len Murphy.

This is topped by the 1953 Premiership side that had brothers Lou & Ron Richards, Bob & Bill Rose plus Bill, Pat & Mick Twomey. Seven 'brothers' in the same flag side.
The Twomey's record of 3 flag winning brothers in the same team will never be beaten!

I'm not exactly sure what "rules" the AFL have used when deciding who to include and who to leave out in the "Family Combinations" section of their annual guide, but Len Ablett is not included in the calculations. So they would now have the Ablett family figure on 984 games.

The Encyclopedia of AFL Footballers says Len Ablett was a "Cousin of Gary Ablett's father", Wikipedia says he was Gary's uncle. Though Len was obviously a relative of all the other Ablett's named the AFL must consider his connection to be not a close enough one.

Ray was the best player IMHO. Interesting that he played less games than Rhyce. Heath or Tony. Talent was clearly evident in his VFA time with Preston.

Nankervis brothers for Geelong played 578 games between them. Not too shabby. Nephew Toby has played 30 or so games with Richmond and Sydney.................Okay. Not really related but it sounds good.

Always amazed at the fact of Shane Tuck's bloodlines - son of the games record holder and his Mum being Ablett Senior's sister. If the drafted footballers on the smae principles they buy horses, he would have been a number one pick for certain.
