    The 1928, 1929 & 1930 Collingwood Premiership sides had three sets of brothers in each team. Syd & Gordon Coventry, Albert & Harry Collier plus Frank & Len Murphy.

    This is topped by the 1953 Premiership side that had brothers Lou & Ron Richards, Bob & Bill Rose plus Bill, Pat & Mick Twomey. Seven 'brothers' in the same flag side.
    The Twomey's record of 3 flag winning brothers in the same team will never be beaten!

    I've got the Ablett's on 1054.

    Gary Ablett Jnr - 302
    Gary Ablett Snr - 248
    Geoff Ablett - 229
    Luke Ablett - 133
    Len Ablett - 70
    Kevin Ablett - 38
    Nathan Ablett - 34
    Total = 1054

    Then there are the Tucks who are also part of the Ablett family tree.

    Michael Tuck - 426
    Shave Tuck - 173
    Travis Tuck - 20
    Total = 619

    I'm not exactly sure what "rules" the AFL have used when deciding who to include and who to leave out in the "Family Combinations" section of their annual guide, but Len Ablett is not included in the calculations. So they would now have the Ablett family figure on 984 games.

    The Encyclopedia of AFL Footballers says Len Ablett was a "Cousin of Gary Ablett's father", Wikipedia says he was Gary's uncle. Though Len was obviously a relative of all the other Ablett's named the AFL must consider his connection to be not a close enough one.

    Ray was the best player IMHO. Interesting that he played less games than Rhyce. Heath or Tony. Talent was clearly evident in his VFA time with Preston.

    Nankervis brothers for Geelong played 578 games between them. Not too shabby. Nephew Toby has played 30 or so games with Richmond and Sydney.................Okay. Not really related but it sounds good.

    Pretty sure the merging of families trees started with Micheal Tuck marrying an Ablett sister.

    An interesting anecdote from Brian Beers about his family representing Collingwood over 4 direct generations.

    The family members who have played for Collingwood include:

    Name Year played senior games reserve games U19 games
    Bob Bird 1898 1

    Tommy Bird (son) 1925, 28 9
    Leo Bird (son) 1929-30 16
    Les Bird (son) 1941-44 11

    Kevin Wylie (g'son) 1953-56 12 19
    Brian Beers (g'son) 1958-62 60 23
    Robert Bird (g'son) 1973-75 22 18

    Tony Beers (g g'son) 1979-84 5 45 21
    Mark Beers (g g'son) 1982-87 40 46 3

    So a total of 143 senior games over 4 generations of direct descendants from Bob Bird. Bob was named on the Ryder Stand at Victoria Park and was a Councillor of some renown.

    Not quite in the upper echelons, but the 4 Selwood brothers have collectively played 665 games and played in 4 premierships and won 4 B&F's

    Always amazed at the fact of Shane Tuck's bloodlines - son of the games record holder and his Mum being Ablett Senior's sister. If the drafted footballers on the smae principles they buy horses, he would have been a number one pick for certain.
