Whats the greatest individual game youve seen? I was there the day Kelvin Templeton kicked fifteen against the Saints. He also kicked nine behinds and two out on the full. Thats twenty six shots at goal. Thats almost six shots every quarter. A shot every five minutes. Thats outrageous.

I'll hop in before anyone else has the chance and nominate Gary's 14.7 vs Essendon in 1993.

Don't know the year, but the Grand Final when Ablett nearly won it for Geelong, late 1980's was it?

Jason Dunstals 17.5 against Richmond in 1992 at Waverley. 22 shots at goal is incredible.

And didnt Leigh Matthews have 50 possessions one day in the 1970's? Does anyone know?

and any time the magpies win is a great effort if u ask me

Simple, I had no interest in the VFL, not until it became the AFL with Port's inclusion in 1997.

I did see that game, and because I love football, I watched it, admired greatly the skill and courage of Ablett, and remembered his outstanding effort.
As for the rest it held no fascination for me, I was busy watching the best of the best, Port Adelaide

what about koutas game in 1996 vs west coast at optus oval took like 22 marks and saved the game for them

If it wasn't for great individual performances, the crowds would cease coming to games to watch their heroes. Ablett drew people to games and he countlessly won games for us off his own boot. Carey has done it as have many others in the past. Sometimes 1 player takes the game by the scruff of the neck and single-handedlywins a game and if they weren't there who knows the result.

As for your name LukeWarm, that question sounded pretty COLD if you ask me.

His match stats for that game where:
26 kicks, 18 marks, 9 handballs, 1 tackle, 1 behind.
pretty Good Game from Kouta
i never saw that game, but was it the game were Tony Evans rushed the ball through for a behind, but it was given as a goal for Carlton, and we lost the match by 3 points or something.or was that the other time we played Carlton in 1996.

for mine there is no doubt the 17.5 that dunstall kicked in '92' may well be the best individual effort i will ever see......
and to think he hit the post twice that day....everything else went right for him though. Its not very often you see the whole crowd barracking for the one player as he got closer and closer to that record of 18. I dont think we will see anyone get close to the mark for some time.... current players just arent quite at that standard....

carey's game against hawthorn in the first qualifying final in 94 at waverly. cant remember the stats exactly, but he had plenty of it, including a 60 metre goal to tie the game late, before kicking on in extra time

I would have to say the greatest individual game ive seen has to be Scott Hodges vs North in the 1990 Preliminary Final. The scoreline that day was :

Port North
1. 10.5 1.1
2. 17.7 4.2
3. 25.13 9.2
4. 28.14 14.7
182 v 91
In a phenomenal display...Scott Hodges kicked 13 goals!!! I believe from memory he had 6 to 1/4 time or something around that mark.
Funnily enough, North kicked the opening goal that game!!! It was the game where Rohan Smith got his jaw broken by Klomp and also where Darren Jarman did the most gutless act ive ever seen on a football field. David Hutton running with the flight of the ball looking straight up in the air, Jarman came charging in, jumped up purposely so he could elbow him in the face and knee him in the guts at the same time. Looks ****ing shocking on television.

But that is the best individual game ive seen...Hodghes 13 goals, complete domination.

localyokel, I too saw Templeton that day but didn't share your bloody joyous perspective

Although it mightn't quite stand up against some of the other performances already mentioned Plugger got 12 out of 14 goals against Melb one day in a pretty good effort.

Thanks for reminding me of my favourite ever game of league footy. I was there for that one too.

It would have to be Scott Cummings against Adelaide in 2000, everyone was cheering him to break the clubs goalkicking record which was 13 held previously by Sumich's. He levelled with 13 goals and in the dying minutes marked about 50 meters out and lined up. His kick was a shocker, it still made the distance and floated in between the 2 big sticks.
