In light of the greatest player thread, I thought this would be a good conversation piece too.

There are three obvious choices

- United 99/00
- Arsenal 03/04, The Invincibles
- Chelsea 04/05 Most points, least goals conceded

So, which is it for you?

Each side has strong arguments to present its case.

United won the league in a canter. Nobody got close and Arsenal finished second on 73 points. Scored 97 goals (24 more than the next closest in Arsenal on 73)

The Arsenal side had pace, flair, flash, ruthlessness going forward, quality all over the park, and of course, they went the season undefeated - 26 wins, 12 draws.

Mourinho's Chelsea had a watertight defence only conceding (15), most clean sheets kept in a season (25), most wins in a season (29), most consecutive away wins (9), and the most points in a season (95). Looking at those numbers, it's hard to look past them too.

Looking at all that, it's hard to look past Jose's Chelsea. But there is something about going undefeated in a season which says something. That Chelsea side were excellent, but they didn't go undefeated, something which is practically unheard of.

We only lost one game that year but there is something special about going a whole season undefeated.

Definitely the invincibles. Going an entire season unbeaten won't be repeated any time soon. Also the team was built rather than bought. Played with panache, physical & mental strength. Something not seen with the current day gunners.
Every team is bought these days.......

Wenger didn't build the team by spending massive amounts of money. He bought players young and developed them or bought players on the cheap and remodelled them (Henry). An incredible achievement winning a title considering how much money Wenger spent.

I actually preferred United's double winning 2007/08 side to their treble winning 1999/00 side.

Ronaldo, Rooney & Tevez up front were unstoppable and superb to watch.

Henry, Reyes and the others weren't cheap. Your 97/98 team was though.

kind of. several of the players broke arsenal's transfer record. bergkamp at 7.5 mil in 1995 is quite a bit of money. henry was 11 mil, reyes was about the same amount. he was 'fortunate' when it came to sol campbell and ashley young was a local. however he was also quite shrewd in terms of vieira, kolo, ljungberg and pires, something he hasn't worked out isn't possible anymore.
