In terms of choosing players from that list to draft, with the benefit of career hindsight, I would favour longevity a bit more than otherwise.

So I would go:

1. Martin - tearing apart 3 separate finals series that resulted in Premierships on top of all his other achievements, clear number one. Sufficient mastery of two crucial positions to be a total nightmare to opponents. He is the most valuable type of player you can get in one way. He consistently performs above expectations in the biggest games, even though paradoxically everybody expects him to do precisely that.

2. Dyer - Towering figure in the game, like Martin, seen as a freak amongst his contemporaries and incredible longevity who to this day has played the second most games of any Richmond player behind Bartlett. Skilful, fast, and vigorous player who ran in straight lines, and like Martin mastered different positions, on the ball and forward.

3. Bartlett - You are taking 20 seasons of excellence, again with a mastery of playing on ball and forward. Immense finals record. Beautifully balanced at top pace, ultra consistent player.

4. Hart - Would have made the top 3 for certain, would maybe even be top bar for having his brilliant career curtailed and otherwise limited by bad knee injuries. CHF in the official team of the 20th century says it all. Incredibly good in such a difficult position from a very young age. Possibly Richmond’s best ever player at his best, but not necessarily the best draft pick. Just too brilliant to be any lower.

=5 Riewoldt, Richardson and Titus. All specialist forwards, all excellent over long careers and in Richardson’s case never had the benefit of playing in strong teams. Forced to split them I would guess at 5. Titus, 6. Richardson, 7. Riewoldt.

The other pair Cotchin and Weightman fantastic players but not genuine top 9 picks imo. I doubt Riewoldt is genuine top 9 as well. Richardson and Titus probably thereabouts but no certainties.

Go to : Post thread
Half way down is an option for a poll. You might have to start again. I actually made one for Round 1. use that if you like

Phar Ace, just thinking a poll for each round is 22 polls and might clog up the board. I'll see if I can edit Round 1 and add few more rounds to that poll

Were you thinking of coming up with the best 22 at the end of it?

Were you thinking of coming up with the best 22 at the end of it?

Yes that was the goal, but it might need some simultaneous Rounds to get through it quickly enough. It will then represent:

"a team that Richmond BF best minds would have chosen if they collectively had the first pick each round".
