Just back from the tennis. I was in MCA for tonight's match and that was a massive overreaction by the police.

Greek fans chanting between points made for a lively atmosphere, along with the Chile's own version of oi oi oi.

Anyway the cops seemed to ask the Greek fans to stop chanting and when they didnt they asked them to leave and brought out the cap. spray, and with one cop drawing a baton. Why? well im not sure. The greeks were doing no wrong, the cops overreacted and made something out of nothing.
 
agree i thought it was an over reaction as well, for goodness sake its only a tennis match. ive seen worse crowds in davis cup , where crowds whistle throughout points, and applaud faults and unforced errors.

If the chair umpire wants quiet and doesnt get it, he or she is well within their rights to order the removal of person or persons responsible for the noise or disturbance.

Its tennis not soccer.

I didn't see the incident but judging from what I have heard, seen and read it does definitely sound like a massive over reaction.

The report on the Fairfax News (3AW, SEN 1116 etc) suggested it was similar to what happened when the Serbian and Croation fans clashed last year.

By the sounds of it, it was nothing like that one.

Tell me at what point during the match were the Greek fans chanting throughout a point?

They made noise between points and after games, as with the Chile fans.

Irrelevant. Told to leave, they didnt want to go... they're thrown out with a little bonus given to them
 
I was there not far away from them and they were yelling abusive chants to Gonzalez which is why the cops stepped in. There were also familys with their kids sitting nearby who didnt need to put up with that crap either.These people are absolute morons and deserved to be kicked out
