Yeah something has got to give

Far too often the defence hasn't stood up come the clutch, while both sides of offensive play don't seem to do enough for Rodgers, leading him to get sacked a few times at awful times (was pretty evident against the Pats in the last quarter)

The losses the last few weeks to the Pats and now Seahawks have been pretty frustrating. Things just don't seem to be improving.

bit of a homer and doubt he will leave but David Shaw would be nice.

Bruce Arians, Matt LaFleur [Titans OC, Was Rams OC last season] or Eric Bieniemy [KC OC]

Interview college coaches with no NFL experience like Chris Peterson[Washington], Paul Chryst [Wisconsin], Lincoln Riley[Oklahoma], David Cuttcliffe [Duke] and Kyle Whittingham [Utah] because they all develop players well. first 4 are offence.

I think Riley will take the Dallas job

not really. We let Alex Van Pelt walk who was QB coach[but no OC experience so wouldnt get the job], and Edgar Bennet went last year who was OC now in Oakland.

We could look at Pettine, and have Joe Whitt take over as DC.
Winston Moss the assistant HC/LB coach will get a interview. but dont know if we want a defense minded HC since we dont have any quality OC's and dont know if we can poach one without them being getting a HC job unless its for 1-2 seasons before they go somewhere else as a HC.

Joe Philbin is OC now and failed bad in Miami. and hasnt been much good this year.

so in other words, no good in-house candidates :p
Players really seem to like Pettine. the whole team was raving about his preseason speech. I could see him getting it, but i think we need and will go for a offence minded coach.

Our defense i thought has made strides this year. Certain games have dominated in lengtht stretches and in thise moments we cannot for the life of us capitslise on offense..

RAMS - should of put away and then they got going and we couldnt stop them. Shouldnt have got to that tho

Pats - exactly the same that 3rd qtr after goal line stand, got them 3 and out and another stop. Then we fumble it away

Seahawks - one, our lead should have been bigger, then that 3rd qtr when we were up by 4 and got 2 possessions basically at midfield and couldnt even muster field goals

We should have bigger leads in all those games and make it very hard to lose yet we go 3 and out over and over.

Goes back to the conservative play to lose playcalling. Youd think after each game and scrutiny that would somehow change but rinse and repeat

I felt we were holding on in that third quarter against the Pats, made a few decent defensive plays to deny them, but then the dam wall broke open in the last

Yep thats it. I feel we have a very talented team on both sides but the play-calling is holding us back. It's been said a few times this season but Rodgers must look at the Rams and Chiefs or even the Saints for that matter and think * how good would that be. Jones carried the ball 13 times? For the whole game? After he ran for 125 or something the week before against a shitty run D. Just weird, I would love to know Mike's reasoning for that.

Just having a look back at Thompson's last 4 drafts with the Packers, especially the first the 3 rounds where we should be finding our superstars and good starters, there is a clear lack of talent and guys no longer on our team. I will say we did hit on some late round picks for sure.

2014: Clinton-Dix (1st) Davante Adams (2nd) Khyri Thornton (3rd) Richard Rodgers (3rd) Corey Linsely (5th)
2015: Damarious Randall (1st) Quentin Rollins (2nd) Ty Montgomery (3rd)
2016: Kenny Clark (1st) Jason Spriggs (2nd) Kyler Fackrell (3rd) Blake Martinez (4th) Dean Lowry (4th) Trevor Davis (5th) Kyle Murphy (6th) Allison and Gilbert (UDFA)
2017: Kevin King (2nd) Josh Jones (2nd) Montravious Adams (3rd) Jamaal Williams (4th) Aaron Jones (5th)

As you can see Adams and Clark are the only guys who are top tier talent still on the team that were high draft picks, we recently traded out Clinton-Dix and Kevin King is probably our most talented corner yet he can't stay injury free. Our 2015 draft is just disastrously bad, while 2016 if Spriggs pans out is actually quite impressive.

You add this in with the conservative nature of Thompson and the Packers overall in signing free agents and the non-firing of Capers for so long and you're left with an organisation that has stagnated. I know we've been all doom and gloom recently but lets take a look at our 2018 draft;

2018: Jaire Alexander (1st) Josh Jackson (2nd) JK Scott (5th) Marquez Valdes-Scantling (5th) Equanimeous St. Brown (6th) Hunter Bradley (7th) and the outlook is good. All of the above guys are either starters or are performing well for rookies. In the case of Alexander we have a potential lock-down corner who can be a centrepiece in our defence.

You then add in the trading of Clinton-Dix and Montgomery and it shows that Gute is making a mark on this team, hopefully he can hit on this next draft especially on his two first-rounders.

One thing that does stand out though is we have used 7 first or second round picks out of 10 on DBs, that's just a terrible ratio. Also our lack of attention to high-end pass-rushers is now hitting home. Although we are ranked high in sacks, the majority of those are coming from the blitz rather than a gun pass-rusher creating pressure by themselves.

Aaron Rodgers avoids interceptions by throwing the ball away at a record rate

The one thing Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is still doing well in this disappointing season is avoiding interceptions. In fact, if Rodgers keeps up his current pace, he’ll set a new NFL record for the lowest interception percentage in NFL history: He has thrown just one interception this season, on 463 attempts, for an interception percentage of 0.2 percent. The single-season record is 0.4 percent.

But avoiding interceptions isn’t quite so impressive when you’re doing it by throwing the ball away every time someone isn’t open. And that’s exactly what Rodgers is doing: As noted by Peter King in Football Morning in America, Pro Football Focus has been tracking throwaways since 2006, and Rodgers is on pace to have the most throwaways by any quarterback in any season in that time. Rodgers is throwing the ball away more than once in every 10 throws.

Rodgers has completed just 61.8 percent of his passes this season, well down from his 64.8 percent career mark — even though league-wide completion percentages are at an all-time high this year. When 10 percent of your passes are throwaways, you’re not going to have a good completion percentage.

Now that Mike McCarthy has been fired as the Packers’ head coach, the priority in Green Bay will be to get Rodgers playing like the Rodgers of old. If, at age 35, Rodgers is just past his prime and not capable of playing like he did when he was league MVP, then the Packers have a bigger problem on their hands.

Packers assistant: Next coach should hold everyone to higher standard
Posted by Darin Gantt on December 4, 2018, 2:46 PM EST

Some people think the Packers should hire a coach who will make the most of Aaron Rodgers.

Some people who happen to be Aaron Rodgers have a personal interest in the process.

But one current assistant coach thinks his potential next boss should make his authority clear. Packers linebackers coach and assistant head coach Winston Moss tweeted earlier what he thinks his employer should be looking for.

“Ponder this… what Championship teams have are great leadership! Period! It’s not the offensive guru trend, it’s not the safe trend. Find somebody that is going to hold #12 and everybody in this building to a #LombardiStandard! Period! #losingsucks!”

While putting himself out there so far might not be the way to impress the next boss, it’s interesting to hear a member of the current staff include Rodgers at the same plane as every other player.

It’s certainly unwise for any new coach to alienate the quarterback, but he’ll have to coach 52 other players as well when he arrives. And striking that balance might be the trickiest part of what should be a very attractive job.

and then this happened...

---------

Packers fired associate head coach/LBs Winston Moss.

Mike McCarthy's right-hand man, Moss joins his former boss in the unemployment line. 53 years old later this month, Moss has been in Green Bay since the 2006 season. He was a candidate for the Packers' DC job before Mike Pettine got it and also interviewed for the Lions' head-coaching gig last January. Moss had some critical words on Twitter early Tuesday before his ouster.

The tweet didnt get him fired. there was some things in the preseason that rubbed people the wrong way, and he was not the best with the beat reporters in preseason that also wasnt liked.

He will join McCarthy in Cleveland next year. might be his DC. I think he could be a good DC but he can rub people the wrong way and would go to the end of the earth for McCarthy.

McCarthy was a great coach, but like many long term coaches he just stayed too long.

He could of done more with talking to TT about trades and FA's. the Marshon Lynch story where he wanted him but TT was hesitant to give up a 4th round pick to the Bills for him. or not going in with Favre to get Randy Moss before the 2007 season. [Rumors were that Rodgers might of been involved with that deal, but Packers were never going to do that].

He will deserve his spot in the Ring of Honor. It wont happen with Ted Thompson next year because of McCarthy's last few years. but like Favre give it 5 years or so and it will be celebrated for the good he did.

The team has some massive decisions to make in the offseason, and will have a bunch of cash to spend.

There is talk of getting Perry to restructure or he might get cut to save $31m over the next 3 years.
Graham might get cut [I wonder if he would of been better if Whitehead didnt take his knee out in the final practice of the preseason, which has kept him on the injury report all year]

Allison will walk with the emergence of MVS and EQ.
Will Pettine fight to get Wilkerson another year
It might be when we move on from Bulaga if find someone new and his body keeps breaking down
need to find someone to work behind Jones, which might be from the draft.

Clay is done, unless he wants to stay and take a vet minimum to be a specialist, but doubt it.

We will draft a Kicker and give Crosby a competition in preseason.

Draft needs are Edge rusher, TE, RG, RT, ILB [dont think Jake Ryan will be back] K

I could see us using both firsts on DE/OLB. or use the Saints pick on a TE or WR [if its a WR it might be a sign we will move Cobb on]

McCarthy is a class act. Always has been and always will be. He definitely deserves a place in the Ring of Honour. I wish him well wherever he goes apart from when his new team travels to Lambeau.
Part of me feels sorry for him getting fired after the game, but part is glad he wont have to go through another 4 weeks of questions about his inevitable firing.

I think he could do well at the Browns or whoever picks him up. a fresh start might be what he needs. kinda like Andy Reid did.

Perry, Cobb and Matthews are all gone.

We won't be getting rid of Graham just yet.

Allison isn't leaving just yet. While ESB and MSV are good they aren't there yet.

No chance we draft a kicker. But yeah could see us bringing one in during the pre-season.
