I was bored and found myself (surprise surprise) trawling youtube. I decided to search one of my favourite bands that I haven't heard from in a while: Green Day. In April this year they were inducted into the hall of fame at the tender age of 43 and I must say, they still know how to put on one hell of a show. I'd love to see them play at the AFL Grand Final. They might not be everyone's cup of tea, but they sure know how to put on a show and would be a hell of a lot better than Ed Sheeran or Meatloaf.

What do you guys think? Do they still have it? Were you ever a fan?Would you like them to play the Grand Final?

These are all the songs they performed this year at the Hall of Fame

Can't be any worse then Meatloaf.

They never had it, they are garbage, always have been, always will be.

Feel sorry for those who couldn't get into Greenday in the mid 90's. They were good fun.

Nimrod was a bit hit and miss but still had some good tunes. Warning was a disaster. Such a shit album. Got a decent enough wraps from critics but the fans stayed away. The fans were right.

American Idiot was a pretty cool idea, quite political and strong lyrically. But they were just going with the same alternative punk sound they had for over a decade. By this time it was pretty old and stale. Greenday had thrashed it to death, many other bands had rehashed thousands of times over. A bit of a shame in a way because lyrically it was one of the stronger albums of that genre but it came about 10 or 15 years too late.

Since then it's been gash.

Overall not one of my favourite bands but I'm not ashamed to say I'll have a good time and a hack around if one of their better songs come on.

As a Live band? Never heard anyone say anything but rave reviews about them live. Even people who don't like them but begrudgingly bought tickets to go with frees or accepted free tickets. High energy and they give it their all and you can expect a long set.

As an aside they played an unannounced gig at the Captain Cook Hotel in Paddington, Sydney. Most famous as being one of the two closest pubs to the Sydney Cricket Ground and Sydney Football Stadium (The Olympic Hotel being the other). The Captain Cook is my uncle's watering hole. Him, a handful of mates and about 10 other punters were sitting inside on a quite Thursday night when all of sudden hundreds of people started rocking up randomly and all of a sudden the place had came to life with noise as Greenday took to the stage. My uncle and his mates had to leave "because the noise was too loud" and the later that night my Dad calls me up "Your uncle was in the pub and this band started playing. Have you ever heard of the 'Green Door'?"... I had no idea what he was talking about till it cames through news and facebook.

Bit of fun in their younger days.

Peaked at American Idiot - they were the biggest band in the world at the time. Pretty good mainstream protest music.

21st Century Breakdown was a more than respectable follow up.

Think the triple album thing was a bit of overkill.

Need a good album now to prove they still have it.

Even 21st Century Breakdown is a bit bloated.

American Idiot gave them a lot of credit and they've probably let that go to their head a bit.

If you cut down the Uno/Dos/Tre to a 11 or 12 song single album you'd have a pretty strong record. They just needed to do some editing.

No love for Dookie??.........always thought they peaked with that and slowly went downhill from there. Somehow never seen them live, but reckon they would put on a good show.

Having seen them live, they do put on a good show.

Yeah unsure how Dookie wasnt mentioned. Pretty much all hardcore green day fans will say Dookie is their number one album.

Not everyone's cup of tea but I've always been a big fan. American idiot was the first album I bought and Dookie is even better. Like others was a massive teenage fan. Good memories

I think their earlier stuff like Dookie isn't quite as popular. They completed the mainstream cross with American Idiot.

Actually saw them live on that tour - a mate got a handful of comps and we went along to Etihad stadium, none of us huge fans.

Had a great night, they went right off. Opened the roof to fireworks outside as they arrived on stage, just generally pretty good. They did a few covers too, I think they got Chris Cheney up from memory and did a Clash cover. Was a good night.

Dookie was definitely their peak.

Had an edge. Now they're just vanilla American soft **** rockers.

Still got it, would be great at the GF and Insomniac is their best album.

There was no edge on Dookie, it was great at the time but it was pretty soft. It hasn't lasted that well IMO. I think their later stuff will stand They have done some brilliant things and some awful things.

Insomniac and American Idiot were brilliant, as was 39Smooth and Kerplunk. There are a couple of songs on smooth and Kerplunk that should have been re recorded like they did with Welcome To Paradise.

I like 'em. When I Come Around was the first song I learned to play on the guitar. Favourite song would be either Give Me Novacaine or Jesus of Suburbia.

The aussie version of Green Day was The Living End imo.

Don't mind them. Haven't heard anything new for ages though and probably a little political for Grand Final. How about Weezer? :)
would literally lose all of my shit if weezer did the grand final

on green day, i never really rated american idiot that highly, big fan of dookie and nimrod though
