So I was just going through the game thread from the West Coast vs Adelaide game on the Gameday board and there are a LOT of people here who hate West Coast it seems! Apparently the officiating was really terrible too. Really wish I could have seen the game, ugh.

I've only lurked on here for a few days, and the West Coast hate is pretty strong. Then again, there's bound to be that hate for every team I suppose - the passion of footy fans is quite amazing.

You'll find that the stronger clubs (plus North Melbourne on this site) are the most hated

Also there is a strong perception that West Coast are the umpires pet team. So any umpiring mistake that favours West Coast will be noticed by everyone.

Yes I was looking at a thread on another board on here where people listed their 3 most hated teams and it seemed like the Victoria based teams were the most common on people's lists.
One thing i've been seeing a lot on here is that many people accuse the West Coast players of "Ducking", which i'm assuming is the Footy equivalent of diving(In hockey and soccer). How much of this is actually true, and how much of it is just whining and excuses from fans from other teams is unknown to me at this point in time. I know in other sports this is an accusation that's thrown around quite a bit when it comes to certain players and certain teams, and while in most cases there's little merit to the claims, there absolutely are certain teams and players that are notoriously bad for this. I've watched a few West Coasts games and I haven't noticed it, but then again my understanding of the rules is still at a very basic level so I would probably not notice it if I seen it.
I'm curious if anyone would care to shed some light on this for me?

Ducking is slightly different to diving.

Diving is when you dive to make a bump/push etc look really bad.
Ducking is when you move yourself in such a position that the opposition will tackle you around the head (which is a high tackle and thus a free kick).

The first happens with every team.
Ducking probably happens more often with West Coast than not with Ashton Hams, Adam Selwood, Scott Selwood and Luke Shuey the notable players. Neither of these players have played in recent weeks.

Another thing for West Coast is that our home games are normally sellout crowds where 95%+ spectators are West Coast fans.
As all spectators do West Coast fans call for free kicks that they think they should get and boo free kicks given against them. Since the stadium is always full and always entirely West Coast supporting these calls influence (or are seen to influence) the umpires more than any other home crowd.
So West Coast get the 50/50 decisions at home.

Ahhh excellent, thank you for clearing that up. Makes sense.

Actually the first game I ever seen was that crazy game that NMFC and West Coast played earlier this year, that was the game that got me hooked!

Unfortunately I was unable to see the West Coast vs Adelaide game this week. I looked into buying one of the AFL Packs, but the girlfriend quickly vetoed that, said we spend enough money on cable packages so that I can watch sports, haha. Apparently it was quite the good game though. Instead got to see the Hawthorn vs Geelong game, which turned out to be a really good one. I had a couple of buddies over Saturday to have a few beers and watch the UFC fights, and while we were waiting for the fights to start I put on the Hawthorn vs Geelong game so that they could finally see what i've been talking about. They found it pretty hard to follow at first, because the sport is so much different than any other major sport we have over here in North America, but by the end of the game they were really starting to get into it. I'm doing my best to bring more people to this great game!

Ah, that game - we laughed, we cried, good times were had by all. Except North Melbourne. Crashed the forums, actually.

Crashed the servers, no shit? That's intense, but I can believe it, that was an incredible game. Having at that time, virtually no concept of the rules or the game itself, there were about 4 times during the game where I said to myself "Oh well this game is over!" only to see a wild point swing in the other direction.

So i've been doing some thinking today, and I believe I need to make my official selection soon about who i'll be cheering for as i'd like to have at least a couple of weeks here as a decided fan before I leave for the rest of the season. I'm gonna mull this over during the next couple of days and make my final decision Friday, prior to the Adelaide game against Collingwood.

So i think in order to make my final decision i'm gonna purchase an AFLTV monthly pass and watch every Crows and WCE games i have access to with the monthly pass. This will be the best way to do it i think.

That's some dedication right there.

Make sure you purchase in time to catch the Derby this weekend; although I'm not overly confident about the Eagles chances, argh.

This is a highlights video of Adelaide's most exciting ever player.

Notice the music.

The music is what Adelaide fans like.
Do not be an Adelaide fan.

I purchased it earlier today, and I was told they had an "OnDemand" thing where you could go back and watch older games, but I don't seem to be able to find where I go for that? Are you only able to watch games that have happened since you subscribed?

Christ man, he has some serious hands on him! Probably could have made it in the NFL as a wide receiver. Unfortunately I can't listen to the music right now though because me and the girlfriend are currently watching NCIS.
On the topic of music though, I haven't been able to get Adelaide's Club Song out of my head for the last few days. You have to give it to them there, they've got a much better Club song than WC does.

I think the original Eagles songs was better personally.

Not sure sorry? You can only get AFLTV outside of Australia and New Zealand, I just watch the games on regular TV or at the ground :D

You might have to contact them.

Ya I just finally got an email back and unfortunately with the monthly and weekly passs you don't have access to any older games, just the ones that have taken place since the date you subscribed. Looks like I won't be able to watch those games after all, blah!

Well looks like I won't be able to watch any of the games between now and the start of the Adelaide vs Collingwood game, due to the fact that AFLTV only allows you to watch old games with the season or mid-season pass. But, as promised, I said i'd make my official pick for which team i'm going to support. I've done a lot of reading on this subject over the past few weeks, but especially over the past few days and i've finally come to a decision. My Club is officially going to be......

*Drum roll*

From hailing from Perth, Western Australia, the West Coast Eagles!

That's not to say I don't still like Adelaide. I'll still root for them against any team other than West Coast, but the Eagles are officially my team! Go Eagles!

What a great start to my Friday :rainbow:

There are plenty of great youtube vids on West Coast including a short doco on the how the West Coast Eagles were formed. I'd link you to some but I'm at work and can't access youtube and shouldn't even be on this site.

Check out the finish to the 2006 Grand Final :thumbsu:

Haha well hey man i'm glad I can help! My Friday doesn't start for another hour. And first thing I do when I get up tomorrow morning(After taking a piss of course) is to watch Adelaide beat Collingwood(Who I understand is the most hated team in the AFL). I picked a great time to become a West Coast fan, as they play Fremantle Sunday. Very pumped for that, i'm gonna have to make sure I have at least a few beer left in the fridge for when I wake up Sunday morning to watch that one!
I will say, a big factor in me choosing West Coast over Adelaide is the fact that yourself, and The Reaper have assisted me in my decision to choose a team, while there has been no Adelaide fans to help sway me the other way.

Beer in the morning... you're becoming more of an honorary aussie than u know it ;)

And a Fosters at that!
Us folks from the colonies have much in common my friend! You should have seen us during the World Junior Hockey Championships this year. They were held in Russia, and most of the games started at around 5:30am our time. So my friends would usually just crash at my place for the night, we're wake up around 5, and make a quick breakfest, and crack our first beers for the drop of the puck at 5:30, haha.
