Re: Greg Inglis going to Essendon.

Have you seen him lately?

It looks like he has eaten Jay Neagle.

LOL I was thinking Dean Rioli. He's a big boy, but Essendon could have a potential gun if he was happy to play mainly VFL this year. Get fit and learn the game. Does he have that commitment? Not convinced. I would be signing him up to a long-term deal, as the first season is going to be all about getting fit and learning the skills.

Re: Greg Inglis going to Essendon.

Would be awesome if you could get him to switch codes..what a spine.

FF: Inglis
CHF: Gumbleton
R: Ryder
CHB: Hurley
FB: Pears

That does get the tongue salivating. Put Hooker at CHB and play Pears on a flank. Play Carlisle as a third forward. Imagine trying to stop Inglis, Gumbleton and Ryder in the same forward line. Still, he has to want it bad enough and lose A LOT of weight. I assume he's still favoured to return to league somehow?

Re: Greg Inglis going to Essendon.

Alright. Here it is.

This is a bloke who was supposed to be walking into two new teams this season and he presented so overweight its not funny.

He puts Ricky Mott to shame!

He also ran away from a legit deal, to collude with Mundine and his merry men which are about as crooked as Forrest Gumps spine.

He obviously has no desire to play AFL, otherwise he would have jumped at the opportunity earlier this year.

We already have one player who should be sponsored by Lite and easy, I do not want a second.

Inglis could be anything, but he wont play for peanuts, and that is all anyone should be prepared to pay for him. Unless he made a full blown effort to get fit, and do lots of media/promotional work.

yah nah pass, no way is he fit enough and he doesnt have the commitment to play AFL, he wants to play rugby, we would just be a stop fill gap for him until he was eligible to play league again...

H'es money hungry, serves him right for walking away rom broncos deal.

Re: Greg Inglis going to Essendon.

I don't understand how we could sign him up when our list lodgement is complete. Even if we could, it's obvious his heart isn't set on an AFL career. We are the back-up plan.

He's clearly more adept at AFL than Folau and Hunt, but it would only work if he was 100% committed to making it work. I'm far from convinced he is. I've been keen to sign up Greg in the past, but his recent behaviour has led me to cooling on the idea rapidly.

Folau won't last longer than his initial contract because his heart is in league, whilst Hunt, while the least talented of the three, will be a success because he's the most professional of the lot and will do anything to have a successful AFL career.

It's believed Inglis can play in the AFL next season even though he didn't take part in the draft as he has not played in the AFL during the past three season.

I remember reading an article in the Courier Mail a few months ago about Folau that he was contract to play for the Broncos in the 2011 and 2012 season. And he said 3 months before he told the Broncos he wanted out of his contract early thats when he decide he wanted to play AFL. And that the Melbourne Rebels the Rugby Union team thats was after him he said he was never going to join them becuase he had alredy decide to play AFL. He could stay with the AFL who knows alot of people belive him and Hunt will be duds and go back to the NRL after their contract finish. I reckon Hunt will doing better than Folau.

Re: Greg Inglis going to Essendon.

There's only two sides with a spot on their list open tho, Rich and Hawks, and that's only rookie list.
Even if he can somehow be contracted but not on our list; ie just a club employee; there's no way he'd be able to get from there onto the main list that I know of.

Re: Greg Inglis going to Essendon.

AFL website

Clubs have the capacity to attract elite athletes from other sports under the ‘Alternative Talent’ Rule. The player may not have been registered or played in an Australian Football competition for at least three years, and have played in a recognised elite sporting competition. Clubs may offer one spot under this rule. Player payments are outside the salary cap if he does not play senior football, with a pro-rata payment inside the cap for any senior matches. A player may remain on the ‘Alternative Talent’ list for three years, before being placed on the Primary List.

Re: Greg Inglis going to Essendon.

Definately worth it, what is to lose? Lets be honest

Pros:

- Has a good fitness base
- Quick
- Would be a perfect replacement for Lovett off the wing
- Nightmare matchup if he makes it

Negatives

- Hasn't played the game
- Kicking skills?

I would be more than happy to punt on Inglis, the pros far outweigh the cons in my view. We have nothing to lose!

Re: Greg Inglis going to Essendon.

Take a punt.

Put him at full forward, he is strong as an ox, has great hands and can roost a ball (as evident in the video)

Nothing to lose.

Nothing to lose other than the fact it will cost a truckload of money to bring him over. I would like to see him at the Bombers, but the amount of money it will cost won't be worth the punt.

Re: Greg Inglis going to Essendon.

Negatives
- He's a dick head who unlike dick heads like Lovett hasn't even shown he's good at Aussie Rules.

What has Inglis done off the field compared to Lovett? Lets be honest here. He has changed clubs (pretty common in Rugby League as the money is not great). Lovett has alcohol issues off the field, and has a trial for assault. Greg has barely been in trouble off the field.

Apart from the whole girlfriend bashing thing.

Apart from the whole girlfriend bashing thing.

Was innocent for starters and if anything he did the "noble" thing in not bringing his girlfriend into the mess when it was her that caused the thing!

Re: Greg Inglis going to Essendon.

and not signing with a club after he promised he would. Seriously you guys spend all this time talking about Knights and his pay-out, and now you wanna waste hundreds of thousands of dollars on a guy who would only be doing it for the money?

Which club? Brisbane I am assuming you are meaning. He never signed a dead, he had a verbal agreement, but that is about it. Plus Brisbane AGREED to release him from that agreement.

Re: Greg Inglis going to Essendon.

also he doesn't play midfield

You're right. We should only chase players from outside the organisation if their surname is Ablett or Judd.

FFS this guy has the natural athletic talent to become an A-grade player in our forward line. And you'd know it back because he's money-hungry? I have my doubts he's serious about an AFL career, but if we sign him to a 3 or 4 year deal (the 1st year playing mainly VFL) it's an absolute no-brainer. Imagine a forward line containing a fit Inglis, Gumbleton and Ryder.
