Re: Greg Inglis going to Essendon.

Nothing to lose other than the fact it will cost a truckload of money to bring him over. I would like to see him at the Bombers, but the amount of money it will cost won't be worth the punt.

As we have all seen this off season money is not an issue at Essendon and never will be and its outside the cap which is just a bonus. Also, as much as Demetriou said the afl doesnt want Inglis and their happy with Folau and Hunt, im sure they would love the extra media attention an Inglis code switch would bring...maybe even enough to chip in some coin??;)

Going to be very interesting to see how this develops from tomorrow onwards after he meets with Hirdy.

Re: Greg Inglis going to Essendon.

Was innocent for starters and if anything he did the "noble" thing in not bringing his girlfriend into the mess when it was her that caused the thing!

You are kidding arnt you?

If the AFL were willing to chip in some coin then I'd be all for Inglis to join. But I just can't see it happening. I see why they helped out the GC and GWS with their NRL recruits, but for us? Not sure. What if they help us out, then all of a sudden another NRL star wants to join the Tigers...then another to the Demons...then another to the Roos. Don't think the AFL would help out with all those clubs financially, which would then look like the AFL is biased towards Essendon in a way (not sure if biased is the best word to use, but hopefully you get my drift). :(

Just because GI will be playing for a victorian based club does not mean the afl wont get a huge amount of publicity in the NRL community. GI is arguably the most high profile NRL player. Everytime we travel to Brisbane or the Gold Coast or Sydney or even when we play down in victoria, he will be a massive story. The AFL when considering paying out a large proportion of his contract only need to consider one question, do we (as the afl) stand to gain a lot out of our investment? and the answer is hell yes, whether its victoria or otherwise this will results in a massive amount of publicity and will be another marketing coup which will allow this sport to grow and continue to forge a massive gap between the AFL and NRL.

They should most definately offer to pay a substantial amount of his contract.

Don't worry I agree with you, but I wasn't saying they wouldn't help us out because we're a Victorian club. I was saying that because the GC and GWS are two new clubs in need of a fan base (and because they're located in the big NRL states), the AFL would help pay for these NRL players

If the AFL do that, what about the next NRL star to cross over, and then the next one? The AFL just can't keep handing out millions to clubs to help pay for the code-switchers. And if they help out the Bombers but decide to not help out the next club, what will people think of the AFL and the Bombers?

Re: Greg Inglis going to Essendon.

Did you read the court case? She had a medical condition. Sure GI did something that was not 100% right but he was found to be innocent. You are innocent till proven guilty.

Farcical story, that always seem to come up when sports stars are in the courts.

She would have been told to follow suit, and he whacked her. If everything was Rosie, why did she take off for so long? Why is she still living away from him?

Don't give common folk who aren't stupid.

You can give me this he was innocent garbage, but it ain't going to stick with me.

So considering this, and the fact he is fatter than a pig, I am about as interested in this soap as I was when queen of soap was in Australia.

Anyone mixing with mundine is off my list too.

Good point, but nevertheless i still think that they would just way up the benefit to the afl and whether they would profit from their investment which they would.

In theory they wouldnt be able to do it, you would think it would fall under the theory of diminishing returns, eventually it would lose its appeal and start giving less returns and it wouldnt become worthwhile. However at this point in time the afl stands to make a lot out of it, I cant see why they wouldnt do it, the afl dont really act on precedence, they change their mind as much as they change the rules of the game. These days what the AFL seem to do is base their decisions solely around the situation and circumstances on offer at the time

I honestly can't see someone in that sort of shape playing at even VFL level next year.

Ahh they just got married, i doubt she would marry him if she was as scared as you say.

If you lie in court there is a thing called perjury. You cannot tell a witness to lie, the lawyer would be done for life for starters and the culprits would be in the slammer. Inglis was innocent and really did nothing wrong as the court case showed. The stupid part was that it went to court- the police stuffed that up by failing to investigate the case to the full degree. Inglis is not fat and to be honest an elite athlete can burn off a fair portion of that "pudding". Inglis could be as good as Adam Goodes if successful. That is well worth the risk!:thumbsu:

Inglis, in the news article posted before, said he wanted to keep playing league and would only switch for the money. As soon as his contract expired (or possibly sooner) he will be heading back to a league team who have been able to find the salary cap space to fit him in. As good as he could arguably be, not interested if thats the case

we dont need this bloke at our club for the following reasons:

1. No loyalty, renegs on deals because he thinks there is a bigger offer on the cards
2. Only playing 4 money, his performance over the past 6 months has demonstrated this. Would play marbles if it payed right.
3. He is fat. Cant see him being fit enough to play top level.
4. Questionable associates
5. Any of our current players are worth putting the time and effort in to develop, rather than this waste of space.

We are on the right track at the moment, i dont think we need this distraction, I can understand the stunt with the new teams in NRL land and getting support, but the AFL is now just starting to look silly if Inglis comes on board . Lets respect the players that have made it their life to succeed in this game and put out time effort and money into them

Strike while the iron's hot.
This opportunity won't come around again. We've been shafted enough by rule changes, here's one which could go our way.
