Re: Greg Inglis going to Essendon.

I must admit, since this morning I have warmed up to it a fair bit... I change my mind too much, like a true leader!

Re: Greg Inglis going to Essendon.

Just my two cents from an outside perspective, but if you guys can snag him I think he'd be an awesome pick up. He's just a naturally gifted athlete. I'm pretty sure you can get him because the AFL will ensure it (getting another NRL player would be a Vlad dream) and more than likely the AFL will pick up a significant proportion of the tab.

My only reluctance would be his commitment and what's going on between his ears.

Well worth a punt though if the AFL pays a bunch of his salary.

Gut is telling me that we will sign him
Will be interesting to see how this plays out

i would love you guys to take the punt but believe it would be money, time and effort down the drain. He just does not strike me as 100% committed and to play AFL when switching codes you need to be.

Im glad to see quite a few fans arent too keen on the idea of Inglis being a Bomber as well...

But I trust Hirdy on making the right decision. :) (and not pick him up!)

i reckon if hes interested we go for it!
he will give us an extra player on the list. he will be the most athletic player at essendon. who cares that hes over weight, he would have had to change his body shape regardless. hes only 23. and the afl would pay some of his wage. lets go for it

Wish Hirdy would focus on priming actual footy players for the season.

yeah right, the whole coaching the hardest pre-season most of the players have ever experienced is just eclipsed by him performing his role as head coach and spending 2 minutes fending off media interest in Inglis.

What a disgrace. Pull your head in Hirdy

Havnt been following the Greg Inglis story at all. But from what i can gather i dont know how he can be on our list for the 2011 season. Thought we had NO ROOM for players and how can we bring him in, so late no drafting or trading left. Than i swear i had read a while ago that he had signed a 3 year deal with some rugby team?? did i hear wrong.

As for wanting him, its the biggest NO ever. Similar to the other rugby players. He wont be able to cut a pre season of AFL level and is really overweight and extremely unfit - let alone be able to perform on the AFL stage, which he wont be able to either. Cant believe i see 67 people wanting him at essendon. He wont be any good. Big NO.

He sign a 2 year deal with the Broncos than walk from the deal because the Strom said he own them $113,000 worth of legal fees following his 2009 assault charge and they won't realse him till they got their money.

Than he sign a 3 year deal with the South Sydney Rabbitohs but the NRL block the move because it would refuse to register Inglis's contract with South Sydney because of salary cap concerns relating to several third-party sponsorship deals.

It's believed Inglis can play in the AFL next season even though he didn't take part in the draft as he has not played in the AFL during the past three season.

Would love to sign him so that all the other supporters can complain that his salary is paid by the AFL. It will just raise the hatred levels to a new high!!

Also if we only have to pay sub 200k we have nothing to lose. The guy is a freak and if his head is switched on he will be able to play AFL.

If the Bombers do get him ( i hope they dont ) he must be placed on a rookie wage as he has shown NOTHING at an AFL level.
He must not be allowed to given the world and jump ahead of other players who have done the hard yard for years.
If they want to test his skills / fitness out put him against a rookie and then his real lack of skills / fitness / endurance will show up .

Correct - GI can be added to the list as 'alternative talent' in place of a scholarship player on the list as he has played another elite sport and has not played/registered in a recognised AFL competition within the last 3 years.

In terms of payment - the AFL will be very keen to help out, as in the case of Hunt and Issy at GC and GWS. Also if he doesn't play a game, as he will be on our list as 'alternative talent' his payments are outside the salary cap. If he does play, then a pro-rated rate for each game played is included in the cap. Although again, the AFL is likely to be very lenient in order to get another of the NRLs stars.

Im a huge Storm fan and have been watching GI for years, and in my opinion he would be an unbelievable AFL player. He is so difficult to tackle and bring down and so quick with his hands, that he will be an awesome in and under type who can pick up the footy and use either speed or strength to break a tackle to give him self time to offload. At 23 years old - he would be an incredible pickup.

Id rather have GI on my list, than Israel or Hunt (or even Billy Slater for that matter).

I agree with the first two contentions. He could be an awesome in and under midfielder because he has the guts to get in there, but I doubt his game awareness in NRL would translate to AFL. He was also moved from 5/8 to centre because he didn't have the tactical nous to set up play. Bellamy took advantage of his size and speed outside the halves seeing its benefit there. He may be able to break tackles at AFL level, but if he couldn't offload as creatively as some in the NRL I doubt his ability to do so in the AFL.

Really hope that we do not go after him. Would be a waste of money, time and resources. The only NRL player that I would want playing at Essendon is Billy Slater. I actually think he is the only player from their code that could make it at the AFL level.

''Greg did meet with him,'' Gainey told the Herald last night. ''It all went very well. If the Souths thing doesn't get sorted out, he'll definitely give it very serious consideration. Naturally, his priority is to get that done first, but he assured him [Hird] that if didn't progress with Souths he'd definitely give very serious thoughts to joining Essendon.''

Haha, you know what Inglis?

You can go **** yourself.

The only games Essendon plays are on the field.

we dont need this bloke at our club for the following reasons:

1. No loyalty, renegs on deals because he thinks there is a bigger offer on the cards
2. Only playing 4 money, his performance over the past 6 months has demonstrated this. Would play marbles if it payed right.
3. He is fat. Cant see him being fit enough to play top level.
4. Questionable associates
5. Any of our current players are worth putting the time and effort in to develop, rather than this waste of space.
If it were Buddy Franklin shafting the Hawks, we'd have no problems whatsoever (just like Blues fans managed to get over Judd shafting the Weagles). If it were Didak or Cus, we'd manage to get over their 'associates'.

While I'm not saying he'd be a blue-chip investment like those boys, if they think he can do it: make it happen.
None of our current players, and very few across the league; present as a 6'5" running machine with a sidestep and explosive strength way beyond anyone in the AFL.

If it was some 17yo kid that size who hadn't ever done anything of note; we'd be creaming our jeans.
