There are plenty of people with the same athletic potential as Inglis who have been playing AFL all their life , who'd be a better bet !

orly? :o

If by athletic ability, you are referring to such attributes as pace, strength and agility then I have one thing to say:

umad?

Not at all , get out a bit and you'd realize there as some very talented athelete's playing Australian Rules Football outside the AFL . I wrongly stated AFL rather than Australian Rules in initial post, my bad.
Mind you I think the AFL has gone through a phase of over emphasizing on athletic ability and we may see a greater emphasis being placed on a players understanding and reading of the game !
It's easier to train and increase a footballers athletic abilities than it is to train an atheletic to become a footballer !

Get out a bit? What a dumb comment. I watch 1st div local football just about every week during season. But seriously, I cannot say I have seen too many, if any, athletes in the mould of Greg Inglis. If you're referring to VFL, then please, go ahead and name them.

Sure, he'd need some serious time to get to the point of being able to play Aussie Rules at AFL level, but as far as being an athlete goes, surely you aren't really that naive?

You do realize that despite all the hype of Inglis being such a huge man there is thought that he is anywhere, http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greg_Inglis?wasRedirected=true ,from only 6ft 3 in the old scale or 191 cm in the new , which makes him 3 cm a tad over 1 inch, taller than Lids and if he was to play AFL would be considered mid sized, out of interest I'm pretty sure Grigg might in fact be around that 191 height ?
I'm happy to be proven wrong but I'd doubt Inglis would have great results if he undertook a number of the draft combine tests .
Beep Test , 10mtr or 20 mtr sprint, agility ?
and I'd back Lids, for one, to clearly have greater results than Inglis over these .
In NRL the combination of his 100 mtr pace and agility for his weight (113 kgs), as from Wik above, form a dangerous combination , but in AFL that combination would be no where near as potent !
Hunt admitted that the endurance required in Australian Rules far outweighs that required in NRL, after playing forward pocket at VFL level and given GI isn't know in the NRL for his endurance you'd suspect he'd struggle at AFL ?
The NRL site has him at 195cm and 95 kgs ??
Either way I don't think he has great endurance or burst 10mtr pace , admittedly has significant 40 mtr pace !
I'd actually like to see what his times are for agility, 10 and 20 mtr sprint or beep test , if anyway has them ?

Daley Thompson was approx 183cm, I guess wasn't much of an athlete either.

Noone is talking about GI walking into an AFL team. Obviously he'd have to change body shape, etc, and then still may be shit at it. I'm just referring to your reference to his athleticism. He is an elite athlete, there is no question about it, and has freakish ball skills to boot. He just happens to have grown up playing rugby, so that's where he excels on the WORLD stage - as an athlete and a rugby player.

Dare say he would beat Lids over 10 and 20 metre, those legs were built for torque. Having said that, no.

Steve Hooker , Jeff Fenech and Keiran Perkins either are or have been 3 of Australia's best athletes and their athletic attributes like GI made them extremely great athletes in their chosen sport, but those attributes don't have great significance in AFL ?
Not arguing necessarily that he ain't a great athlete, just doesn't poccess a great athletic package to play AFL , something I thought would have been assumed, but I obviously needed to point out initially ?

After watching K.hunt play against Coburg, I would have serious reservations about any of those guys.

Sorry, that wasn't obvious to me in your initial statement at all.

If you'd said there were plenty of people with same potential to be AFL footballers, I'd have seen what you were getting at. But you mentioned athletic potential, which to me came across as separate from anything specifically footy related.

We'll all see in a couple years time how Folau adjusts to AFL. From that experiment, I think we could draw similar conclusions for GI (assuming he has a red hot crack, and isn't just in it for the money).

His wage would be enormous. I wouldn't like GI getting a squillion more than Martin, Jack and Cotch etc. Sends the wrong message.

Agreed. Don't see why we would want to have a crack, we have plenty of kids on our list who deserve more of a chance. Just out of curiosity, won't the AFL pay half of his wage outside the cap (As they are doing with campaigner & Issy)?? Therefore, you could pay him 800k a year and only costs us 400k (Still a lot but only a little above average wage in the AFL). just a query...

dude you might have seen some very talented athletes doing their thing outside the AFL but you kinda miss the point that we are talking about an out and out freak with the physique that crashes through brick walls at will and the pace that makes that crash seem like a semi hitting a mini.
If Hunt and Folau were deemed to be suited to the AFL then Inglis would give them wind burn going past them in the "make it in the AFL".

Said it before when he was on the outer contract wise with the Storm, Greg would be the masterstroke get by the tigers if they went for him. Put him at HB and enjoy the show. Nothing would get passed him and nothing would be able to go near him. We have marvelled at Dustinn doing his thing and breaking tackles with the dont argues, Greg is the master of that craft. ;)

My biggest concern would be the fact that he has associated himself with Anthony Mundine...

Fine athelete Mundine but genuine knob.
I reckon GI was quite happy to be heading up to Brisbane until a week or two ago when he would have taken a call from Mundine getting in his ear about 'joining him in da hood' in Redfern and playing for The Bunnies.

Very few guys who get taken under Mundine's wing end up making good decissions. (SBW anyone?)

This is right, and I doubt very much if Australian Rules is even on his radar. Fortunately for us.. :)
