One of those names shares that view....... I'm guessing Swann will drag it out before releasing a press release at 2.29pm the day of the Grand Final.

Essendon cheated. They broke rule 1.6. And they were punished for this cheating. By being turfed out of the finals and fined 2 million.

Swanny is 100% factually correct.
 
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure a fair comment is not defamatory.

Essendon are under an AFL and ASADA investigation for drug cheating, and as a result have been severely sanctioned for their actions. They don't even know themselves whether illegal drugs have been administered. It's a reasonable assessment to make that they cheated, though not to say it is a correct one.

For them to sue someone who has casually labelled them cheats is incredibly petty. The Essendon administration is living in la la land.

I know Swann will inevitably apologise to avoid legal costs. This just further highlights the ridiculous self-righteousness Essendon has.

LOL, Essendon really want that to go to court? I hope Swann doesn't settle to get rid of what is basically a nuisance suit. I would love the courts to categorically confirm that Essendon cheated.
 
The truth is a valid defense to a defamation case.

Essendon have accepted punishment for breaking the rules. I don't see how they can win this.
 
Maybe one day Hird will have to sit in the docks and explain his relationship with Shane Charter.

I doubt Essendon want to be open to cross referencing though.

Vlad will tell Swanny to apologise, all the same.
 
Just on the record, Essendon are the cheatiest cheats in cheating town. In fact they are the cheatiest cheats since cheats got cheats on a cheaty bun.

Probably just a bad choice of words as swan doesnt seem to be one to engage in such intra club nonsenses. But as we know mick does always have his opinion on things. Which btw i am glad he does. Too many people are far to careful in making sure they say nothing contraversial.
 
Can't Essendon just leave the PR BS until after the finals.
It would be great to see the Blues win again.

AFL wanted to call you "cheats", but had to negotiate on semantics so you blokes would take your medicine.

I don't understand how a club can sue for defamation. By law companies cannot be defamed - so which individuals are parties to this supposed defamation action?

I know it wont happen but I wish there was more comeback to idiots that go around threatening legal action. Society has gone crazy.

In light of my comments above that a company cannot be defamed, who do you think has been defamed at Essendon by Swann's comments (that is, who would have signed the writ against Swann)?
 
Yeah.. yeah. Essendon didn't "cheat" like Melbourne didn't "tank". :rolleyes:

The Bombers should start worrying about more important things.. like finding a coach.

Jobe = drug cheat
Essendon = drug cheats

Dons fans, don't think your club is OJ Simpson YET, Asada still got the laser sights on you.
 
Threatening to sue is just a tactic to shut people up.
It also creates the illusion of innocence making people feel sorry for poor old Essendon.
Essendon right from the get go have tried to control & suppress debate on this issue.
But no one is buying it !
