Greg Swann has accepted a role to become the AFL’s new footy performance boss
Brisbane Lions CEO Greg Swann has informed the club he is stepping down next month to join the AFL.
As the Herald Sun revealed on Saturday, Swann has accepted a role to become the league’s new footy performance boss.
A staff meeting at the Lions has been called for this afternoon.
At AFL House, Swann will play a key role dealing with clubs and AFL CEO Andrew Dillon and football operations boss Laura > Kane on key issues including game analysis, match review, player movement and laws of the game.
Lions’ chief operating officer Sam Graham will step up as the interim CEO.

Swanny has done an amazing job at Brisbane. State of the art training base, premiership, and getting the new stadium over the line is probably the final feather in his cap. He's been here 12 years, left the club in an incredible position.
Edit: and close to the best AFLW program in the country.

Perhaps it gives the Lions the chance to keep things fresh. Also having someone from Beyond the Wall will hopefully provide some protection against the Vic clubs who want to devalue the academies, and other equalisation elements.

Congrats Swanny. Go fix up the shit at AFL-HQ.

The more ex players and ex execs spending time up here and returning to VFL land can't help but spread the true nature of the difficulties encountered in the outlier Northern states.

Sam Graham will move from the COO position to become our new CEO.

Swann to depart Lions for new AFL role
Mr Wellington said Lions Chief Operating Officer, Sam Graham will take over as the Lions new Chief Executive Officer.
“Sam has been our Chief Operating Officer for more than 18 months now. In that time, he has demonstrated his strong capabilities and built strong relationships within the club and with our key stakeholders. I am confident he will hit the ground running.”

Thanks Swanny,

Helped in bringing the stability required to achieve Premierships.
Can understand why the AFL has poached him because if they need anything, it’s stability.

Apart from anything else, his phone call to Fages - are you a coach, or a manager? was genius - he had never met him.

The rest speaks for itself. Just an amazing job to achieve what he has. Mayhap, in the long run, we are better of with him in Melbourne pulling the levers rather than up here making phone calls.

Thanks Swannie - with our eternal gratitude. A legend of our club. Would love to see life membership this year in appreciation.

The AFL giveth and the AFL taketh

A shame but he had already contributed an incredible amount
Greg Swann is Mr Wolf.

In 2014 Greg Swann was parachuted in by the AFL to fix Brisbane Lions Football Club, that was arguably the league's biggest basket case at the time. In 2025 Greg Swan is parachuted in by the AFL to fix AFL-HQ, that is arguably the league's biggest basket case at this time...

I'm not ready for change, but i can understand why others want him.

And he takes into the mothership the knowledge of what's its like to be an interstate team. That's gotta be a good thing.

Thanks for the 11 years, it's been a wild ride that has taken us through every emotion.

Good luck and good fortune.

Thanks Swanny....sorry to lose you but hopefully u can fly the flag for non-Vic teams. All the young recruits u n ur wife put up r very thankful I am sure
