Is the Stand rule the only rule in professional sports that prevents a player without possession of the ball from moving.

Even cricket and the fixed fielding positions when the bowler is running into bowl, they’re allowed to walk towards the batsman.
No it's not.
In basketball when there's a free throw all the opposition players have to stand at specified spots around the key.
I'm sure there are others.

I guess a free throw is like a penalty in soccer and the goalkeeper back on the line and other players behind the ball.

Not in general play though, I should be saying.

I wonder if these draft changes were brought in post 2027 would the majority look more favourably on Swann?

probably not, he looked like a bumbling idiot on AFL360 talking about other things, would win back respect if he came out and said yep, AFL (umpire) made an error rather than pretending all is ok in la la land

I didn't watch the interview, so im not going to comment on his performance.

But just on the new draft rules, how you could come up with a system that is more complicated than previous, is mind boggling.

The fact they are keeping the draft compromised by keeping academy's, father-sons, and what ever else clubs can bid for, is just wrong!

Until they make the draft and trade period uncomprimised the game is ****ed!!

The point made that it's never a good time is probably fair - someone else would be disadvantaged next year. The issue I had with the interview was how easily the tanking remark was brushed over. Swann treated the question like it was a finalist dropping from 10th to 14th for an extra pick. In reality it's 11/12/13 losing matches once their finals chances are gone. Lyon and Whateley needed to question this more instead of letting Swann get away with words to the effect of "I don't believe that will happen."

That’s a terrible performance on 360.

Earlier in the week I saw a photo of him being interviewed, was wearing sunnies which I thought was unprofessional, and was quoted referring to Andrew Dillon as ‘Dills’. Seriously, leave the bogan nicknames for the pub. Just so amateurish, which is the AFL administration.

That's a boys club for ya

I don't think anyone is against the changes themselves. Could they be improved? Absolutely, but it fixes a hell of a lot of the issues right up. I would prefer to see a sliding scale of compensation picks and discounts - no falling off a cliff if you don't finish bottom 5 for example. This would reduce tanking.

Tanking in this sense is towards the tail end of the season, you realise you're not making wildcard round, and you decide to rest some players and ensure a bottom 5 finish, whereas previously you may have pushed a bit more. Not a full blown tank, but still not ideal.

The biggest issue is that clubs such as Port, have planned for this draft already. They've made their trades, they had a strategy and now cannot implement that because of the last minute change. A big part of why they took 0 players in the last draft was to set up for this coming draft.

IF the AFL are allowing trades of picks 2 years in advance, then the draft changes should not come in for that period. If it comes in 3 years time, then the complaints fall away. They could even do some interim measures and phase it in over that 2 year period.

Combined with the ruck rule change that happened so late in the piece that teams got absolutely screwed, this man is just making gung-ho decisions without thought.

Do we honestly think Adelaide give RoB a new 3 year deal if they knew the new rules were coming? It has ended his career, along with a few other rucks that are now ineffective.

At least Gary had the guts to call its out. Gerard the spineless prick sat there in silence.
It's why I loved Robbo, he would call it out. He would be screaming out about all the rubbish that's going on. He'd rant and rave and ask the hard questions.

First time i've seen Gary call something out, which is a promising sign.
