Far be it for me to question your punting genius Urnie but as a long shot punter myself (on horses)i have found that if you don't think the dog can win then you shouldn't be backing it a place.
Plus Place betting is for wimps ;)
What I have learnt with Dogs. Is that odds on pops with early box speed don’t go down as often as they do on horses and Trots.

Random variance at this point. Going back to what I know. Short races. Looking for value dogs in the gun alleys (1 and 2) that probably won't win but that have been undervalued in the place market.
Is it so crazy just to back a fave every now and then? Just for a little boost every now and then. Long lose streaks are depressing

honestly i think you are better off finding value dogs in box 4,5,6 as they are more likely to be under-rated by markets.
