I'm on Albion Park but have a stupid thing where every time I post winners they never win.

I'm still somewhat of a greyhound novice, can anyone explain to me what these abbreviations mean in the form?

NvNP
NvGr5 - I assume this means a novice grade 5? But what makes a "novice" dog? Is it age, amount of starts, amount of wins?
Mixed (but with no numbers after - obviously Mixed 3/4 means Grade 3 & 4 in the same race but what about when there's no numbers?)
S/E
FrAll - Free for all? What does that mean?

Any assistance would be terrific!

NvNP is a non penalty novice race(that is no geading penalty for winning)

Free for all is what it is. Open to any dog. Of course the best 8 get in and it is in most cases really just an open top grade race.(grade 1 or 2 dogs generally)

Mixed with no numbers is a maiden final. Usually heats the meeting before and thus the final has winners in it with the still rest maidens.

now this is where a novice greyhound is made. A novice is a dog which has only won a maiden or the semi final or final of a maiden series. Basically a dog which has not won a grade 5 race but could have 2 or 3 wins.

Thanks for that, some of it went over my head but I think I get the gist.

Didn't back a loser all meeting at Albion Park, either! ;)

Fortunately I am not putting my hard earned on any of these bets. Was going to have a crack at Casino Friday, but realised that they were at Lismore .

Dukey boy,

I read the stats in the Herald Sun on leading boxes and 1,2,7,8 seem to have a slight advantage. So I decided to put the theory to the test by boxing the 4 in trifectas for a week. AS you will have seen, the results were not flattering.

Port Pirie
Race 1
#1 TABU SORO Is travelling across from Victoria who have a stronger grading than South Australian racing. Did start career in NSW with some handy Gosford runs and The Gardens runs too. Finished second last start at the straight 340m grass track at Healesville in 18.92, which isn't that strong of a time as recently they have been running 18.70s consistently, even maiden class. Could be the one the punters come for.

#2 ISLE ASKA has been in the market past three starts. Did win a qualy on debut run at the track in 31.66 in August. Had four runs that preperation which were steady. Dam has thrown some ok types in PUZZLE CORNER who won on debut at Port Pirie in 30.50 then won at Angle in 30.37.

#3 ORONOKO did start $8 in a race with KOIWA ANGEL, who is a far better classed dog than ORONOKO. Ignore the run in that race. She did win a qualy at Port Pirie over 412 in 25.02. Appears to find a lot of trouble in races.

#4 ARVO'S MAKA did start trialing in Victoria and he ran a 30.61 at Traralgon. Which isn't that strong of a time, but is ok for this class. ALthough does seem to struggle to run out the trip.

#5 BOLD SULLY started favourite in debut run at Angle Park day meeting over the 515. Found lots of trouble and finished well back. Sire has no racing history while dam is out of PRIMO UNO.

#6 ROYAL TUSCANY has won a qualy at Strathalbyn over the 416 in 25.61 which isn't a strong time. But then ran a solid fourth next start in 25.12, but winner did run a strong time. Damline won at Angle Park and comes out of Token Prince. Dam hasn't produced anything of notice yet.

#7 HELL BLAZER showed ok speed in runs at Angle Park early until copped several checks. THen won a qualy at Port Pirie in 31.40. Will definately be the one to beat. Dam also won the Port Pirie cup. Could be a track speciailst in the making.

#8 GO SAULTS is out of SURF LORIAN and MADDY SHIRAZ who whelped the IMPRESSIVE CLOSING ARGUMENT winner of the 2005 Melbourne Cup.

MARKET ATTEMPT

#1 $6.50 = 15%
#2 $7.50 = 13%
#3 $15 = 6%
#4 $10 = 10%
#5 $8 = 12%
#6 $12.00 = 8%
#7 $3.40 = 27%
#8 $3.00 = 33%

=124%

Selections: #8,#7,#1,#2
Suggested bet: #8 WIN #1,2,7,8 Box Quin/Trifecta

Obviously money will come for either the 7 or the 8 in this race and one could start $2.20 while ever other runn drifts out a fair amount to make up for the market. If you dutch the 7,8 you should come out a winner. Add the experienced #1 in for the exotics, as sometimes experience does show through. Also the NSW form could hold up this race.

The pool size on the exotics should be ok, as most TAB punters are still hanging around as the gallops have just come to a close. The pools sort of hit their peak in the middle races, as by the time the night is out, most have finished their meals and gone home leaving the online punters to make up most of the pool.

Hopefully there are some more greyhound enthusiasts out there too!

Will be interesting to watch the pool sizes for Sale in the exotic department this evening as maybe there could be a good option to bet quinella rather than exacta with double the amount on.

As we all know, if your boxing exacta's, the dividend has to pay double the amount of a quinella to justify the bet.

Good luck today.

Good luck today.

I actually prefer the smaller pools. Can get unders can also get big overs.

some examples I got last sunday night.

exacta on these 2 at canberra dogs.

3-WHITE IRIS 12.50 3.00 Qin 3 - 2 11.50 All Paying
at 07:04scr - NILSub = 6, TALIESIN BLUE 2-ROSIE'S A ROBBER 1.60 Exa 3 - 2 79.50

8Canberra8-ULTIMATE DEANO 9.30 3.50 Qin 8 - 3 57.30 All Paying
at 07:04scr - NILSub = 1, ROXY EVA 3-SEA BISCUIT 2.60 Exa 8 - 3 167.80

but then at Sale I got these 2

7Sale2-COOL RICKY 6.80 2.30 Qin 2 - 4 53.20 All Paying
at 07:04scr - NILSub = 8, BEAUT CONQUEST 4-JOE DOUGLAS 3.60 Exa 2 - 4 73.50
9Sale4-BUNGENDORE 7.70 2.10 Qin 4 - 6 17.70 All Paying
at 07:04scr - NILSub = 6, DAN FLACK 6-DAN FLACK 1.50 Exa 4 - 6 28.50

Just adds to the fun. :D

Canberra would have been a good one to get, for the very few that did.

Both the Sale races the exacta did not pay double the quinella, making the quinella the better option for boxed betting.
