545m - 37.93%
700m - 25.00%

Percentage of favourites that win:
No. of favourites that win - 41.20%
No. of 2nd favourites that win - 18.51%
No. of 3rd favourites that win - 12.26%
No. with longest odds that win - 1.15%

Position of winners at first section:

Winners leading at first section - 49.41%
W
inners 2nd at first section - 22.01%
Winners 3rd at first section - 11.94%
Winners 4th or worse at first section - 16.64%

As we can see with greyhound racing it is important to have an idea of the run to the first section. Why? Well 8 into 1 doesn't really go, so normally you are going to see interferance for at least 2-3 runners before the first corner. Sometimes you can see 6 dogs come to trouble, leaving the leader 8+ lengths out in front.

So since there is a lot of trouble at the first bend, we want to find a greyhound that is going to lead (mainly looking at 300m-550m).

What you have to realise, that is some tracks the boxes are on the bend. Which gives certain boxes an advantage. Coupled that with a fast beginner and your half-way to picking a winner.

SIMPLE guide to look for.

Watchdog average speed to first split. Look at the top 3. Then look at their recent form in terms of early speed. Did they lead? What box? How much interferance?

Your local TAB may have surepick print-outs. Ask for them. They do their own first splits, so their data is different to the watchdog. Take the fastest from the sure-pick and have it as a selection.

This is a runner that you MUST include in your selections. No matter what the form says in terms of results and times. Because you see some winners run 26.40s at Ballarat at $13.00..... more than likely they led and there was trouble behind.

So if your new to greyhound racing. Easiest way to do the form. Is solely concentrate on early speed and boxes.

Thanks for the advice mate.

Where do you get the form, or where is the best place to look for greyhound form?
For Victoria/South Australia your one stop shop is:

www.thewatchdog.com.au

They have a wide range of form-guides for different sort of punters.
They also have video replays. But most of them lack sound. And you have to look at the results to know which race the greyhound previously raced in.... would be nice if they showed that in the form-guide.

Surepick meetings can be downloaded for South Australia events from the grsa. Surepick have a team of data recorders who simply watch replays and note all the happenings in the race. That is then formulated by a computer for each greyhound to try and predict a TRUE race. Which is a race without incidents.

You can view their website:

https://www.surepick.com.au/

http://www.grsa.com.au/

For a simple guide to MOST meetings:

www.thetote.com.au

NSW have a great website that is FREE to sign-up too.

www.thedogs.com.au

QLD

http://www.graq.org.au/

I personally don't like the Queensland form and prefer to use other means..... like TAB DFS and www.thetote.com.au for those meetings. But then again I rarely punt on Queensland altogether.

WA Have a fantastic website and have plenty of interesting previews/reviews done about their meetings.

http://www.greyhoundswa.com.au/

The only disappointing thing about their form-guides is that they don't show the ACTUAL time the greyhound ran. They give the winners time of the race and the distance behind the winner.

I also buy the weekly NGF magazine that sometimes has little bits and pieces of information in the form that others don't.

Hey mate, I'm looking into buying a greyhound with a few mates. We're pretty new to this sort of thing though, and I had a look around but couldn't find much clear info on these areas:

How much is it for a half decent one?
How much would entry fees be for races?
How much prizemoney do you receive?
And how much roughly does it cost for upkeep, all expenses except for entry fees and buying it?

Thanks for your (or anyone who knows stuff about it) help.

Hey mate,

check out Rob's website (he is a poster here and is the one who has syndicated all the hounds I own).

www.winningglory.net

He is a great fella and really trustworthy and knows his stuff.

The best part with how Rob does it is that it includes all costs. Generally he gets a training deal with the trainers so you don't even need to fork out a monthly training fee :)

Check his website out and I'm sure it will have u lured. After having my first winner yesterday my the smile on my face is just huge haha!

Heartbreak make me a dancer, make my greyhounds run faster.

OK

Sandown tonight and the conditions are likely to be of the wet kind. With this in mind we are looking for early PINGERS and STRONG dogs.

WHY? Because in the wet it is hard to make ground and it is tougher on some dogs who are use to the easy dry conditions. Experience counts too.

DAY 26

SANDOWN
Race 1 #1-7-6-2
Race 2 #6-7-1-5
Race 3 #8-4-5-2
Race 4 #7-8-6-5
Race 5 #4-7-8-2
Race 6 #8-5-3-1
Race 7 #1-2-4-3
Race 8 #1-5-7-3
Race 9 #4-8-7-6
Race 10 #8-6-4-5
Race 11 #4-1-6-3

Exotics are the go!

Will get some nice odds tonight too. Plenty of muglings sitting at the pub enjoying a frothy and punting on the pups. Although, be weary of anything too short on the tote. It's wet, so you wouldn't want to be backing ANYTHING under $2.50.

Betfair should be good for laying favs tonight.

badluck oaks. not one tri 2nite. but got a good roughie early on...

Alright. Well after the last success of the early speed indicators between surepick and watchdog and my own analysis. We will have a look at the early leaders for Traralgon tonight.

Traralgon
Race 1 #1,8
Race 2 #1,5,6
Race 3 #2,4,6
Race 4 #1
Race 5 #1,2,3
Race 6 #6
Race 7 #1,5,7
Race 8 #1,5,8
Race 9 #1,2,7
Race 10 #1,2,8
Race 11 #1,4
Race 12 #1,5

Now since there are plenty of leading chances i most races, this is a good sign for exotic punting as we like open races. Increases the dividend.

I'd be taking Quins and Exacta's and running doubles/all-ups from those leading chances.

Well the final is up next. Plenty of speed in this race, might make it difficult for Turanza Bale, who typically likes the inside draw. Velocette though, gee I like those odds. Remo Rubik did run down Hannifys Impact at Wang Cup. And Geoff Mitchell was on, saying all good things.

Is a good betting race thus far.

Just hope we can snag the right result. Been doing ok tonight.

For the heats of the PAWS OF THUNDER tonight at Wentworth Park, I have some numbers to play around with. Bearing in mind though, I seem to do quite poorly at Wenty, so am moreso looking at the likely runners who will progess through the heats.

What a night at Wentworth Park!!

Normally don't do that crash hot, but tonight, killed it.

Hope everyone else had similar luck in the punt.

The quaddie was an excellent result for a smalll investment. And that was without considering the form of Race 8, as only looked at the Paws Of Thunder. Amity Bale could have been taken one out in the quaddie too if you did the form, or even looked at the race.

Our all-up went as far as six legs. Not too bad.

Our running doubles went quite well.

R1-R2 $7.00
R2-R3 $3.30
R3-R4 $5.90
R4-R5 $20.20
R5-R6 $48.10
R6-R7 $27.90
R9-R10 XXX

I guess High Earner will be quite short now to take out Paws Of Thunder, but High Earner had the easiest of heats, and Cindeen Shelby had the hardest. Will have a look next week when the fields come out, as High Earner is likely to be unders now on the fixed odds. Dyan Lachlan will come in from $11 too. Still willing to risk Birthday Boy.
