Jonathon Griffen is going to be a fantastic ruckmen. Tonight he was playing against two much bigger, more experienced opponents and more than held his own particularly in center bounces. That tap he did which was straight down the throat of Van Berlo was reminiscent of Clarke.

In my opinion he not only beats Maric on potential but also in their abilities now. He is going to be a sensational player:thumbsu:

I was saying the same thing to my mate tonight at the game. I think in a couple of years when his body has filled out a bit more and he has the extra experience he is going to be a freak. Still have high hopes for Ivan but im pretty happy with the way Griff is coming along.

IMO he beat Everitt when they went head-to-head.

His ruckwork was extremely imrpessive tonight, and he's got a thumping kick!

His work around the ground is what impresses me, he's a massive unit, but he obviously loves running with the ball in hand.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't he being groomed to be a forward for us?

Either way, he's looking great.

Sort of. I think when we were "hiding him" and people found out that the person we were hiding was Griffen, there were reports that he was 196 cm. So we all thought he'd be a forward but when he came to the club I think he was 199cm. Now he's 202cm. He could be a forward, he's got good pace and decent skills. He looks good in the ruck tohugh.

Good attacking instincts but he really needs to develop some defensive skills. When Jolly drifted down to kick those 2 goals from the pocket in the 3rd term Griffin was still in the centre square and didn't even go down to stand the mark.

Very good point.

The first one was bad enough; the second was unforgivable.

The Griffatron was on fire tonight - an artist in the making.

Booming kick too.......and for those old enough to remember Rehny's first few games - Griff hates losing out in a contest - and displays his disgust and disappointment just like the young Big Puss used to.....

...a very very good sign.....:thumbsu:

I agree, he actually BEAT spida tonight in the ruck contests. So incredibly impressed. The only thing stopping him from taking the next step right now is his weight; once that comes, and I hate to get ahead of myself, but I think we're going to have a pretty special ruckman on our hands.

I'm not downgrading Griffen's efforrt, he was seriously good and will be a beauty for our club wherever he finishes up playing, but I've never been a member of the Everitt fan club. Useful at best.

I agree he has enormous "potential" but with Maric is it a case of out of sight out of mind???

Last year we all (me included) were saying Griffin would probably be delisted :D

Think both players will be around for a while at the EFC ;)

That wasn't his fault, he and Huddo had just swapped. Just one of those things that we were caught out at a change over.

Early in the year, John Reid made a statement that I posted on here and some mocked the comment that Griff has more natural talent than both Evaaaan and the Mees put together. :)

I can start to see why they persisted with him.

THink he needs to rest in the fp when he becomes adjusted to the pace of the game. He only takes about 10 min each qtr. so perhaps his aerobic capacity isn't what is requires yet, but he will I'm sure. :thumbsu:

Really impressed with Griffen, Knights, VB and our other kids. It has the makings of a "Revolution"-:o . With Maric supposedly next in line, Meesen
(and Biglands) are really going to struggle to break into this lineup.

Our two ruckman aren't the best in the business, but you can't help but admire the way they compete around the ground. Nice change from Clarke and Biglands.

But the backup cupboard is bare at the minute, wouldn't want an injury right now. :o

Going on past NC quotes, he doesn't lilke that unless it's a matchup thingy.
So in a word doubtit :o

Too be honest I haven't seen anything in Meesen to justify why we would have used a 1st round draft pick, and a top 10er, on him. I keep trying to invent things to hold my hat on but if we are honest, he has shown very little to date. Let's hope he's one of thos players ( Troy Chaplin ) who looks ordinary at SANFL and good at AFL level.

Pity he'll never play a game for us.
