Really not buying this revisionism on Cerra. He took full advantage of the club sinking time and developmental resources into him as a linchpin of our midfield rebuild only to promptly * off as he entered his prime. Sure, negotiations were slightly smoother but Freo still got buried by that trade.

We all know Young is scum but Logue's had a contract handed to him which seemingly has him earning more than 95% of the competition for at least the next couple of seasons. He'd have been moronic to turn that down given he's really just a decent athletic KPD. Granted we took him with a top end draft pick but in terms of footballing ability there's a clear gulf between Logue and Cerra.

Homesickness and life-changing contracts both ultimately fall under self interest.

I recon Amiss has a higher ceiling but I'd trade him for Naughton to remove the risk right now and have a key forward in their prime. In 1-2 years I suspect I would not do the trade.

Just be prepared to hold players to their contracts.

Or require the residual of his contract to be paid to the club. Probably not legally possible.

Yep it worked out well for us In the end. Looking at Scott Clayton’s face after the trade was agreed was priceless. I’m convinced the word came down from “on high” to get The trade done and if pick 2 was the cost still do it. No way he would have done that deal himself ( he left GC I think not long after). Brad Loyd tellingly said afterwards that the “AFL will be very happy”, a dig, I believe, at the fact that we had no hope of matching the money on offer from the AFL.
Alls well that end well but at the time it pissed me off that the AFL connived to poach one of our players.
Every game Andy plays makes it a lot easier to accept However!

Personally, I saw it differently. Felt like Lobb was vibrating with excitement to GTFO of Freo, and Griff looked like he'd been given a terminal diagnosis.
