Another one who's turned his game around under Lyon, wasn't playing particularly good football for the crows from memory? and although I think they'd have kept him if he didn't want to move home for family reasons a lot of Adelaide posters at the time didn't seem too worried about seeing him go.

You just never know with football, he's ended up getting a lot better chance to show what he can do then most thought he would when he first came to Freo.

Clarke could be timing he's return well, should get a good run of games (maybe 4-6?) playing with Griffin before Sandi comes back into the picture. All depends on how Clarke plays of course but atm I'd be keen to see the Griffin/Sandi combo given a good try. Opposition never gets an easy tap out and a big reduction in ruck time for both of them could really help keep them out on the field and running out games.

For me that has to mean Clarke and Bradley out though (I know Bradley's out anyway) and as long as Pav is playing, there's just too much talent pushing for a spot to leave out another running player.

Wow bit of ramble there but yeah kudos to Griffin, he's been a big part of what's been working for Freo so far.

Personally I think that Adelaide should get some credit for being classy. So should we for the Robbo move.

Rather than just saying it's expected, and the club should get no credit for it, I'd rather recognise each of the clubs that do it... as having done the right thing.

The Slime did the same for Ebert. Let him go back home as they weren't giving him much of a run, and he wanted to go home. Let him go back for a reasonable trade and didn't try to bend the Power over. Power did pretty well from that. Equal second in their B&F in his first year, and is now their vice captain in his second.

Ebert was a #13 pick and the Weags had sunk a fair bit of time into his development. In return they got pick #28 (and a minor upgrade on a later pick). It seems unlikely to me that they thought it was full value, but they still took the trade. Everyone wins (especially the Power).

Is it just me or has Robbo got taller and got more dash about him since going to the saints?

Big call, got a lot of very good recruits in the last few years. He was the right price, supported us as a kid and has been more than handy.
Not really, it was meant not about being good but about being important. Even Fyfe could be more easily replaced. Imagine a season since 2011 without Griffin...

I agree. Roberton at Saints > Roberton at Freo.
Robbo was always surprisingly tall. And always flew under the radar with us but was a solid contributor. I'd say it's more a case of noticing as an ex freo player in a foreign backline

It's also him getting another preseason under his belt. His few weaknesses in speed and kicking (not that the latter has been much if a problem this year) are overshadowed by his decision making and positioning. He's almost as good as Walters in knowing the right place to be as he's a great reader of the play.

We have had depth issues up in all areas, but agree, none more so than our ruck with Sandi's injury problems.

Roberton was always going to improve with experience and more time in the gym. He's still only 21. He'll be better again next year. And the year after that.

If he hadn't gotten his missus pregnant (and consequently wanted to go home) I reckon the club would have liked to hang onto him.

Whenever he came into the team last year he was a very good contributor. His attack on the ball surprised me, and although his kicks had a bit of loop to them, they usually had the right depth and hit the target. Made decisions quickly and was prepared to take the opposition on.

We had a bit more depth down back at the time, so he didn't crack that many games. Thought he was good in the ones I saw though. If he'd got more of a run he might have had a break-out season here. Good to see he's doing well though.

Unfortunate for us, but good for him, his family and the Saints. Win some, lose some I guess.

like with any player - pros and cons with Roberton

  • good height, good reader of the play
  • sometimes didnt stick tackles, and a bit laconic when chasing down, looped a few kicks

but he was young, and he'll improve - his biggest asset is how he reads the game. not surprised he's doing well with the saints - and good on them. I'm happy with the Lyon-Roberton trade

It's no secret that I was always a big Robbo fan, it's kind of bittersweet to see him have a few break out games, I had the feeling it'd happen this year - a change of scenery does a lot for kids with the talent and application.
he's been a more regular feature of their backline than ours

I was surprised to see Robbo is now listed as 194cm, always thought part of his problem was being a bit undersized for KPB. If he fills out a bit more he could be an absolute bargain for the saints.

That's more a reflection of the two lists.
Dylan was only depth with us and he may be a key player for Saints.
If he was still with us he probably would not be getting a game, so good luck to him.
At full strength he's probably a depth player for them too... I'd happily have him on our list but as you say, good luck to him.

Edit: I may have misphrased.. at the start of the season, if the saint were full strength, he probably wouldn't feature. He's probably showing his worth to them at the minute

I was also a fan and I think we will sit and watch him become a bigger bargain each season as he grows into his body(stupid phrase)and further hones his skills.
I haven't watched a lot of Kilda this year and naturally when I have I've been looking for him,but I think there is no doubt his confidence, composure, hardness and execution have improved and unfortunately will continue to.
Don't and can't bear him any malice;the clubs who wanted him knew if they offered nothing they'd get him for exactly that.
Looked good in purple, good luck to him and maybe one day when he's out of contract he'll persuade the bride of the great beauty and mystery of the wild west!
