Re: Griffen

Melbourne are very much in the frame. they are the leverage that his manager will be using to get Freo to accept a trade from Carlton.

Just like Carlton wasn't Nick Stevens first choice, Melbourne are far from out of the running. they are looming in the shadows ready to pounce in the same way.

what's more, Melbourne could also do a veale deal to convince Freo not to trade him to Carlton....

the demons are front and centre relevant here still.

Good points CM but the flipside of that is Freo can also use Melbourne as leverage. If Carlton don't play ball then Warnock goes to Melbourne. Carlton would be desperate to recruit another quality ruckman.
I think they may (should) give up there 1st rounder.

As for us, good to see we are keeping up our average of losing one player to the go home factor every year - disappointing.

If the pick 24 deal is done, then everyone wins accept us. Surely we wouldn't accept that, especially when we hold all the cards. One of the competitions promising young ruckman for next to nothing. If warnock is worth a 1st round pick then so is Griffin. We hold all the cards in this deal, lets see if we can hold our nerve.

Re: Griffen

Fremantle have offerd Mr Griffin a 3 year deal worth over 300k per season and he has informed Adelaide of his intentions to move to Fremantle. Richmond have now missed out on both Warnock and Griffin despite being the one firmly after them at the beginning.

Working out a trade will be difficult. Freos pick 21 will be a starting point.
The plot thickens.

Re: Griffen

I would have thought Griffin is worth more than Warnock. Surely he has played more good games? Like it has already been stated, we hold all the cards here. If he does want to go home, we shouldn't let him go for less than a first round pick. Cam Wood got pick 14 ffs. Good ruckmen are hard to come by in this day and age!

Re: Griffen

Reid has stated Griffin is contracted and a required player is not up for trade.

So what. He wants to leave and will do. Craigs gonna look like a imbecile by forcing someone against his will to stay. Griffin is very very adamant that he is leaving. Hes gonna almost triple his wages with Freo.

How do you know this?

What do you think we will get for him?

Considering he IS contracted and Fremantle are the ones wanting to do the deal, you'd assume it'd be a good deal...?

on potential, warnock is probably marginally ahead of griffin. but on exposed form they're on par.

cameron wood clearly has to be used as the reference point. warnock and griffin are both ahead of where wood was when he was traded this time last year.

why on potential?? Griff is miles ahead of Warnock as a tap ruckman and is more dangerous up forward.

All I can guarantee is the first offer. Pick 21. What happens from there on in I dont know. Negotiations will then begin but I got a feeling your 3rd rounder will also be upgraded from pick 40 odd to pick mid 30s too.

What Fremantle are willing to give up could have alot to do with how smooth the Josh Carr trade is. They want and need to get this done early in the week so they know what they have to work with. Freo are hoping to not only get Griffin but secure 6-7 draft picks inside the top 60

Nice, would be handy to get a couple of picks infront of Port.

Re: Griffen

As part of that arrangement, Fremantle would pass on Warnock to Carlton, which in turn would have to satisfy Adelaide, possibly with its first selection in the second round of the national draft, overall pick No24.

F**k off. :p

Re: Griffen

Griffin gets/got more hitouts at AFL level than Warnock does at WAFL level.

Exactly. Warnock's size advantage is highly overated, he as a player is too.

Griff would be a huge loss for us. With the risk of losing Tippett and Moran to GC17, we should be doing what we can to keep him. After Ivan he is our only pure ruckman on the list.

Re: Griffen

In a way this is good news for us. Griffin wants to leave but is contracted and Femantle BADLY need a back up ruckmen.

We want to be aggresive. How about we go after Gibbs.

Griffin to Freo
Warnock to Carlton
Our second round pick and Mackay to Carlton
Gibbs to Adelaide

So we trade Griffin Mackay and Second round pick for Gibbs.

Gibbs will be a franchise palyer for us and IMO would be worth the above.

Would Carlton accept that? I don't know. Thoughts?

i said only marginally ahead. warnock just seems to have a bit more to work with. he's a year younger, four centimetres taller and four kgs heavier. it's line-ball though, and as I said - they're level on current form.

1. Carlton wouldn't accept that.
2. Why the hell would we do that???

One of the best young ruckmen in the comp, probably our best young midfielder and potentially another more than capable player for Bryce Gibbs, who albeit is very good, but he is not 3 players.

Need to stop the Gibbs obsession. I know all you fossils love sentimentality and brotherly love/sex, but let Port use that recruiting strategy.

When we are entering a period of uncertainty (at the draft table) we can't bugger off 3 young guns. We need to get as many draft picks as possible, and use them wisely!

Re: Griffen

We'd love Gibbs but i doubt Carlton would go for it.

Also let Griff go, we can pick up young SA under 18 ruckman Redden pretty cheaply (Maybe30-40's) He will be a ten year player, he is a pure ruckman

Re: Griffen

Adelaide gain: Pick 6 (Carlton), Pick 21 (Freo)
Carlton gain: Pick 10 (Crows), Warnock
Fremantle gain: Griffin, Pick 37 (Carlton)

Adelaide lose: Pick 10, Griffin
Carlton lose: Pick 6, Pick 37
Fremantle lose: Warnock, Pick 21

Fair or too biased?

That's actually not too bad, but the Crows would have to throw in their 3rd rounder to Freo I reckon.

Sorry people were saying we need to be aggresive to get a STAR player. Gibbs is that type of palyer.

Makay will be good and Griffin has potential but as I said Gibbs will be a franchise player.

You have to give to get.

Also the fossil reference is stupid.

Re: Griffen

How much are Carlton offering Warnock? With the players in their squad commanding significant salaries, I'm wondering how they could possibly afford to pay more money than other clubs are willing to offer.

So only Griffin, McKay and our second pick for Gibbs. Hmmm shouldn't we throw in Maric as well. No idea.
