Anyone bagging Griffiths and saying he deserved to be dropped either doesn't watch games or has NFI.

As for Vickery, I also disagree with people's assessment that he is useless.

We started the season with both these players in the team and it failed... WHY??? Because Hardwick tried to make Vickery FF not Jack.

These 3 players actually would work perfectly in the same team but only if they are used in the correct role.

Let me put this in netball terms.

Griffiths is like your wing attack. He is has the physical ability to roam the field moving up the ground and helping deliver the ball to the forwards.

Vickery is your goal attack. He is a reasonable shot on goal, can take a contested mark, leads reasonably well and can work up the ground but isn't as physically fit as Griffiths.

Riewoldt is your goal shooter. You only want him in and around the forward 50. He is not physically gifted and doesn't have the engine or speed to be like his cousin Nick and play up the ground. On the other hand he is arguably the most creative and most dangerous tall forward in the competition when he is around goals.

If the forwards are played in this manner then there is no issue about the ball leaking out of the forward line. Griffiths would line up at half forward but would almost play like a winger, the person playing on that wing would be an attacking winger and then would roam forward in his place (Gordon, McDonough, Ellis, Lennon could fill this role). Two of the smalls players up forward (Lloyd, S.Edwards, Arnot or the previously mentioned players) will help put pressure on in the forward line and lock the ball in. The 3rd forward spot should be reserved for a resting midfielder Cotchin, Martin, Deledio, Vlastuin are the ideal candidates IMO because they are skillful, apply pressure and are good on the ground.

IMO this would work perfectly but I guess I'm just a supporter and not a failing coach!

I love Griff to bits, he has the potential to be a really good player.

However, his form over the last few weeks has been poor. He hasn't hit the scoreboard at all and he hasn't had a great impact on the game.

Vickery takes his place in the side because he's shown good character in the VFL and worked on the defensive side of his game and because we know he is more of a scoreboard threat than Griffiths

Lol, it was wackers like you that slagged whitey his whole time at RFC , petterd this season averaging 20 possies 6 marks at 76% disposal eff! oooh yeah but his hopeless ummm coz he came from Melbourne :drunk:, he s far from our problems....I agree Chaplin has been useless and grigg is a major culprit in going sideways before forwards but don't take a shotgun out , it's not accurate

Absolute rubbish. I've been a White fan for years. From a family of Richmond supporters and he bled Yellow and Black. Also been a fan of Jackson and Tuck.

Petterd - Statistics mean crap other than he handed 2 goals to Hawthorn and then instead of slotting through a goal for 40m he passed across goal 50m. Too many mistakes for my liking. This clown berated Astbury for not picking up HIS man (Puopolo) as he waltzed into goal.

Leave Arnot and Madonna in the side. Bring in Lennon and rid ourselves of the likes of Grigg, Petterd and Edwards. Make then earn their spots in the side at VFL level and if they are good enough, then break into the side. Too much complacency.

I hope Vickery proves me wrong and plays well this week I really do.

What concerns me is the message these team changes send to the players.
Just a week ago, the club ran a little ditty on Griff lauding him for his performance against Brisbane. The same week TV was poor in the twos. One week later the whole team has a shocker and Griff is singled out and dropped when I thought there were many worse. TV kicks 3 against poor opposition in a less than stellar display but is recalled.

If the players had some doubts the selection panel has favorites, they walk away tonight with none.:(

For those Griffiths fans - relax it is not a Vickery Griffiths competition. Griffith form this year has secured his future at the club. He looks tired and Vickery has served his penance(and more in my opinion) He will need to perform to keep his spot. Both Griifith and Vickery are key to the clubs future and the club knows it.

Agree but why not hampson ? Cant mark , cant kick

I agreed Griggs position should be under pressure , miles and Lennon should be in the queue for grigg and Edwards posi

Ellis should be groomed as the player to create space. Give him the opportunity and he will easy surpass Grigg. Instead, he was given "run with roles" at the start of the season. There's no doubt Grigg has a massive engine, and creates heaps of space, but his disposal by foot is poor. Decision making is questionable. As an outside player, his disposal should be elite. He has that much time to pick options and deliver. but it is not happening.

I think he has only really played 1 game as a tagger.

Vik apparently played a bit down back in vfl, anyone watch care to comment?
Have been liking finally seeing Griff even if he hasn't impacted much, doesn't look far off it, flat last week v hawks, but would expect TV to be ahead of him, or have Grif as swingman and ruck.
More worried about dropping Arnot but not Grigg, who was bloody backwards last week, or Sheds, who I do love, but he's played all of about 14 secs of quality footy this year

He must have a niggle I can't think of any other conceivable reason why he wouldn't be playing.. If he hasn't rfc GAGF

Lol at posters backing up the match committee...

He's a young KP player who needs to play AFL to improve. For the first time in his career he has shown something & 6 games later we drop him.

He has so much potential. But yeah we should play Aaron Edwards instead...

I think they were giving Vick a bit more time around the ground as his role at full forward hasn't worked, so they wanted him to be a bit more accustomed to playing more of a high half forward role

Fair enough I apologise, I was generalizing , white had a lot of detractors during his time, suddenly I'm overwhelmed by the legion of fans ....like petterd some can be quick to judge one or two errors neglecting a heck of a lot of good work. He is nowhere near the nub of our problems,

Yea - I think he did the job on Gibbs and kicked a couple himself. Hard to tell if it was a hard tag or a "run with role" - which are probably the same thing. I'd like to see how Ellis would go in Grigg's role since Grigg looks to comfy in the side at the moment.

Will it really matter against Geelong who gets the taps? At least Griff gives a contest when the ball is on the ground after the bounce.
Agree, becomes a 2nd ruck rover
We'd get killed in the ruck without Hampson

He gets one more week before Ivan comes back
We are getting killed in the ruck with him!

All good. Whitey was a favorite of mine. I find it disturbing that he grabs the Power jumper and beats his chest like he did in the Tigers jumper.
