Ben is going very well at the moment. He finally has had no pre season surgery, which means he gets a good fitness base behind him. And yes, he has been "contesting" a lot harder. He's a sweet kid, but, even he knows where he is at right now.

I was a fan when I first saw him but he has seemed too go off a little bit with no good performances even at VFL level, hope that choco can sort him out too reach his full potential.

Choco had Toddy Elton under his wing last pre-season and we saw him come on in leaps and bounds…

Choco aint no miracle cure

Todd was a 19yo KPF last pre-season. What were you expecting. He's coming along fine.

At the moment McBean is well in front of him as the next up and coming KPF. As a backman both Grimes and Astbury are in front of him as the the next third KPB. I think there is a place for him as the thirst tall to take A.Edwards spot but he will need to work on his leads and (most importantly) contested marking in our Reserves side if he has any chance making the AFL team. I would love to see McBean FF and Griff CHF starting next year for our 2nds team both fighting off to earn a spot in our AFL F50 by mid year.

Whilst i do agree that Grimes is well & Truly ahead of Griffiths, I wouldnt really say that David Astbury is ahead of Ben, Both are at similar stages

Griffiths as a Backman i see as a replacement/Backup for Chaplin or Rance as he is Quicker,Taller & Bigger kick than Grimes/Astbury
The Role i would love to see Griffiths play is
1. Full Foward
2. Swingman (Jimmy Jess style)

I'd prefer Astbury lead up full forward , Griffith high leading CHF , covering CHF-CHB and McBean floating .
Batchellor is still going to struggle to be best 22 and IMO is next next medium/tall defender .

We don't want a sweet kid we want a champion footballer with plenty of c$&t in him!

He's 200cm at 22 years old. Not all talls need to break the game open in their first season like NicNat and Buddy. Sure he's only shown small glimpses, but he's got size, a raking kick and time on his side. There's others I'd be writing off before this kid, and some of those are in our supposed best 22.

I agree. Who's this Twitter person everyone is raving about?

my friend told me it's some guy with a bird. i mean seriously... who gives a flying crap if someone's got a cool bird. i'll catch myself a pigeon to battle it off with this Mr Twitter.

That's the problem. This is not his first season.

Agree is only amatter of time before he is delisted. Hope i am wrong but cant see him making it at AFL level.
I too hope to be proven wrong. Big blokes do take longer but he simply hasn't improved incrementally. You would like to have seen signs each season that he's getting closer to AFL standard but it hasn't happened. Let's hope his shoulders are to blame and he makes a giant leap for Richmondkind in 2014.

Funny thing is if he played for another team, say WC, and came on as a 23 yo, everyone would be lauding their development and how they didn't need to be played before they were ready!
Griff has the skill attributes to make it. His body has let him down with surgery almost every year he has been at the club. He had a bone graft to his shoulder too and you cannot get confidence in your body overnight.
The guy is too good to give up on. He must show something this year though and even he knows that!

McBean has a great debut season at VFL level for a tall, however he's still just a 19 year old kid who won't have the fitness base to play full time at AFL level yet. Griffiths does have a few more preseasons under his belt to develop a bigger tank and a bigger frame so I'd rather give Griffiths a chance to break out next season than run McBean into the ground and play him too soon when he will be an inconsistent kid for a couple of seasons yet (probably)
We are no longer at the stage where we have to play kids for no other option but to get game time into them, we need to win games now and that means picking players that can be on the ground as much as possible.
