what a joke this board is today. Collins, while i am sad to see him go is massively over rated on this board. at the end of the day carlton targeted him and he WANTED to go. if thats what he wants then good riddance, we want players who want to play for the RFC.

How do you know that he wanted to go, Darth? He was probably told that we wanted to do the deal and that he was expendable. It was never reported previously that he wanted out...

So nice to have some sanity. Andy C is nothing more than a B Grade reserve. The way people have been going on today its like we have traded Lids.

Stoked Griggs is on board, he is a BIG hard bodied mid who will fit in superbly with Cotch, Dusty, Jacko and Lids... Now if we add Houli;)

Can’t believe how much im loving the Tiger admin at the moment. Seems every move they make in the last 10- 12 months is positive and potently massive.

I have this feel.

I know we are rock bottom now, but I have this feeling we will be a rapid mover from a bottom 8 team this year. People pump Melbourne because of their young talent, but we are not that far behind.

Don't worry. All the doomsayers will be onboard quicker than anyone.
Once they see that this time we are doing things properly and that expendable players (ie Collins) are exactly that, there won't be room on the bandwagon for them.

Yeah correct..
Footy is a business these days with no romm for sentiment.
So pumped that the club is going with its head not its heart..:thumbsu::thumbsu:

Tigers have won in this trade IMO.

I'm in agreement with you, but as a Tiger's fan I appear to be in a minority. A lot of the uproar appears to stem from Grigg being uncontracted and nominating Richmond, causing a feeling that we've paid over the odds for him. If they had both been contracted and it had come out of the blue, I suspect these boards would be reading a little different.

finally collins is a mid who wasnt played there but still did well enough in a role while his body slowly developed.

Do you think he will get a run in Carlton's mid-field? or that his body will ever develop to the extent necessary to play there. His natural game may be that of a midfielder but I don't believe he'll play that role regularly at AFL level.

We traded a tallish 3rd forward for a hardbodied mid, which is what we needed.

This is how I see it too.

i will reiterate im not having a go at shaun grigg im happy to have him.
the only thing im disappointed with is the process we have gone thru. no matter how one argues the topic common sense says we should have both grigg and collins at our club.

That depends on how we utilise the PSD pick and whether or not we rate, whoever we take there, as being of more value. You have posted elsewhere that it's disappointing to lose Collins, whilst lesser players remain on the list. With this I agree, just can't see anyone wanting to take a Hislop or a Polo off our hands for anything.

And all year we have had the usual posters bag our “spuds” and how we should get rid of them…Now they are “bagging” the potential of Griggs/Houli etc.

My favourite spud, Kingie can stay, but White, Nahas etc can gladly depart for the likes of Grigg and Houli. 2011 is gunna be a cracker for us…… cant wait.

Like I said earlier, I love how we underrate our players when they are with us, but we grossly overrate them when they are gone.
Seriously, people need to get a grip.
Collins is gone. Last time I checked Collins wasn't spelt the same as Martin, Cotchin, Riewoldt or Deledio.
You can bet Collins wasn't on our list of untouchables. Serious knee-jerk reactions going on here.
Embarrassing.

Re: questions re Grigg/collins trade

Lets cut to the chase.

To things concern me with Grigg.

Does Grigg lack sufficient balance and does he run flatfooted?

These two aspects concern me. Those who wish to contribute your thoughts please do so. Someone else feels his kickng is a little suspect.

If these are issues what can we do about them?

I notice he has ankle injuries. What are preventative measures. I think personally he needs a modified training program to develop the arch in his foot, calves ankles etcc....

Thoughts?? throwaway abuse is not helpful BTW

Look, I understand everyone is pi**ed off that we traded Collins.

IMO i believe hardwick stepped into negotiations which helped the trade get done.

Hardwick is looking for commitment, guts, courage etc - Collins doesn't fit in this category whilst Grigg ticks everyone of these boxes.

as you can tell by the commitment to the ball this year compared to others.

As to all the Carlton supporters saying "he bombs it" - Playing direct was a big part of our game plan last year with jack upfront and crummers around him.

No one should be disappointed as we have picked up a gem here

go tigers!!

Yeah I heard Carlton are real embarrassed for us too....embarrassed all the way to the bank....

What are you sleep deprived at this late hour? Not only did you just name qualities Collins has in spades, they're all the same qualities Hardwick's publicly singled him out for previously.

Seriously...looks to me like a lot of you people are trying to talk yourselves into believing that this was great trade and some kind of massive win for the club. Love all these sudden re- assessments of the two as well....are we talking about the same Collins? ( the fact that a simpleton like Bazzar, the worst judge of talent on the board, who goes soley on stats and B&F results, doesn't rate him should be a big clue) and as for Grigg well he might be better which isn't the point, but I have to wonder how many of you overnight fans have actually seen more than 5 minutes of him?

Stop clicking your collective heels together and open your ****ing eyes.

IMO close this thread, it's the dumbest thing i have seen on here in ages, if you use logic to assess the situation you will see things for what they are.

We have gained a few draft picks in this trade period and what!! swaped a player who doesn't go by the name lids, cotch or matin for another player who is big and hard at the ball.

In 15 games collins played this year he had a few standouts, grigg on the other hand was one of carltons best in the last 8 games of the season and only missed out on playing finals due to a strain.

this is rediculous, was it one of our prized draft picks NO!!!! was it one of our big name players or even one touted as a big name player in the future NO!! no one is saying collins won't be servicable player but grigg has already shown he will be more than that!!

Saying we could have gotten him for free in the PSD is bull shit, how can we get both houli and grigg in the PSD ? i dun think it would happen.

Just read the facts ffs, IMO we have done awsome this trade period, we have picked up 3 more picks and with our new administration and last years recruiting i am stocked to see what they can do.

FFS I DON'T SEE WALLACE ANYWHERE WTF IS GOING ON HERE!!!

Nope, just trying to point out to doomsdayers thats it isn't as bad as it looks and the fact that you have to bag someone else on this board to get your point accross makes you a jerk!!!!! GTFO

Just a stat about Grigg "... his retention rate of 42% was the worst of the top 20 possession winners at Carlton with more than half of his kicks going directly to the opposition" from the 2010 afl prospectus

Grigg can win alot of the ball no problem, just cant kick.

I go to the footy with a changing number from a pool of 11 RFC members. I rang around last night and only 2 thought we lost the trade. Some jumped for joy. Collo was a good, average footballer and a nice kid. But I'm sorry, but in a final he would get slaughtered.

Stop wasting energy and move on - Andy has.

Re: questions re Grigg/collins trade

You don't get it do you?
You can't just let every player slide willy nilly into the PSD.
Teh club saw something in Grigg that they wanted.
They chose to deal straight away because they saw something in Grigg that they weren't prepared to let get away.
Its like talking to a brick wall talking to some of these people who talk as if we gave away anything more then a player on the fringes of our best 22.
Grigg has been better over the course of their careers and will continue to do so.
Collins a better player then Shane Edwards, oh dear:eek:

Hi Magic, there's a bigger picture to consider with why Grigg (not a ruckman apparently) is in. It involves how we will use Delidio as we evolve our game plame, and i believe they have targeted him due to the interchange rule coming into effect next season. We don't know enough of Hardwicks coaching plan to fully understand what has occured (Grigg for Collins). If disposal is his problem then think of King, no world beater but his disposal was able to improve as the season progressed.
Injuries - i don't think he is injury prone, but we will obviously see soon enough over the pre season. It's a bit hard to gauge as a lot of blues supporters aren't really providing an unbiased opinion. He was a gun when they wanted him, now he's a mercenary hack! So let's sit back and realise with Foley coming back into the midfield, we have now bolstered our midfield by two.
