Todd Grima

THE AFL career of ex-Geelong rookie Todd Grima isn't over yet with the youngster set to train with Port Adelaide over the pre-season.
Grima, 20, flew to Adelaide yesterday after receiving a call from Power coach Mark Williams.
The 192cm forward said he would nominate for the preseason draft and hoped his time with Power would open up another door.
``I've decided to have another crack so I'll nominate for the preseason draft. I got a call from Mark Williams and he said to come and train which is good,'' he said.
``It doesn't really mean anything at this stage but it gives me a chance, I'll just go and train and see how I go.
``It's a start, so I've just got to do my best and make the most of the opportunity.''
Grima was delisted by the Cats last month despite an impressive year with Geelong's VFL side.
He was the leading goalkicker with 51 goals for the season and part of the Cats' VFL premiership side.
Grima, from Tasmania, said he was looking forward to moving to Adelaide. His brother Nathan plays for SANFL club Central District and will also train with Port Adelaide over the pre-season.

Has also been in talks with the Tasmanian Devils.

Since we delisted him, Todd was always going to try to go to another club.
As I said to Eliza yesterday, I don't want him to go to Port, Todd's a nice guy and I can think of 119 reasons why he shouldn't go to Port. :p
But I do wish him luck, great player with talent - I'd hate to see it wasted.

I thought he'd shown enough to warrant an upgrade, coupled with the fact he'd represent a decent option in the depth chart (particularly given the plethora of talls that have made their way off our list thus far).

If Toddy's claims about the club's reasoning are correct though, then the club obviously thinks highly enough of our current depth up forward, and/or low enough of Todd (and his flexibility as an option down back) to cut our losses on his two years of development in the VFL.

Good luck to him though.

that can't really be said with conviction until he is actually given a go.

I'm personally a bit disappointed to see him not retained. I doubt many other teams would have cut him loose after the year he's had.

who would he displace in the senior team?

nick sautner kicks bags of goals in the VFL. should he be given a go at AFL level?

I think the crows were very keen on him at one stage. I think i heard that we wanted to rookie him but you beat us or something. Wouldnt be surprised if we gave him a crack.

We get the Simpsons here and Mansfield's not really in the outback - I'm just sooo sick of the Frank Grimes/Todd Grima thing. Even Todd calls himself "Frankie."

lets all be honest just for a second, Grima is a good footballer but no way good enough to play at afl level, is way to slow and would be found out at the highest level, i am surprised so many people think he is that good, geez i must of been watching the wrong player or something, no lost at all really, whocares lets unleash the tomahawk in 08.

I've seen him play heaps in the VFL... have you?
From what I have seen he is capable of playing at an AFL level . I'm very disappointed that we let him go but I'm sure he will get much more of a go at another club. Good luck to him!

i would trust steven wells and the development coach over our novice opinions.

if they thought he could take the next step then i am sure they would have kept him on the list.

i personally liked his agro and enthusiasm but he was far from getting a senior gig.
