Grimes broken down again

Word is he will probably play about 10 games next year. His hammys are an obvious ongoing problem and weakness and therefore will be managed and strengthened over the next 3 season. Expect about 10 games a season and a reduced training load.

For real?? What is it about his hammies that they can only manage 10 games a year?

Save 'em for the finals then.

Thanks junior. Not great news, but you've been on the money with this from the start, so no reason to doubt you now.

If that is true, then its a disaster. We know what sort of a player we have got on our hands here and finals will be that bit harder now.

Such a shame, he is absolutely crucial to our structure and is one of the few reliable kicks from defence (with his height)
Maybe they will turn Batchelor into the new Dylan Grimes but I'm not too sure.
Mcintosh would seem the appropriate replacement but how can we rely on a first year player to just slot straight in.
Astbury doesn't have the foot skills or the decision making ability of Grimes and neither does Griffiths in my opinion.
Oh man.

Astbury is a better kick than Grimes. Of all our KPP he'd be our best kick. Hopefully his knee hasn't screwed that up for him. Doesn't have Grimes athleticism though.

wow, that's terrible news if true. Hope this isn't the case - thought he went to see that German specialist earlier in the year? Are there any other radical treatments we can try? Perhaps a modified pre season program to strengthen them?

I think it is just that He is still a young kid, so if they can strengthen him up slowly, when he is more mature (around 25) he should be able to handle the workload required.

This is heart breaking and I have no reason to doubt you but can I ask how you have obtained such intimate knowledge of this?

From the man himself on twitter:

Just about to go under the knife.. Thanks everyone for the support, it has been so overwhelming! Can't wait to see the boys back in melb!

:(

i have already classified him as not a player for us anymore - anything we get from him is a bonus but i am sure the club is already planning for a team without him.

such a shame.

its the curse of the number 2 - look what it did to thursfield.

Whilst I refuse to subscribe to the above because it hurts too much, it certainly explains the clubs absolute hunt for Chaplin.

Does it matter?

Mate when making such massive statements, it is always appreciated as I am sure you can personally appreciate, that some kind of evidence or credibilty is provided. Names are not required obviously but play nice.

Thanks for the info Junior. Much appreciated...

Bloody spewing about young DG...so much potential and already a KEY component to our success IMO. Will be a big loss. Hope for his and our sake he recovers and is playing on the MCG sooner rather than later...guttering news.

This is devastating news for such a absolutely pivotal player in our back six.
We looked so more composed when Jack was on the park earlier this year ripping his opponents to shreds.
It will be very interesting to see which player steps up to the plate and replaces such an important & unique player of our great game.
I'm really hoping this is the final time he goes under the knife and wish him all the best for a swift recovery.
