This weeks team...
B: James Strauss, James Frawley, Daniel Nicholson

C: Tom Scully, Colin Sylvia, Jeremy Howe
HF: Nathan Jones, Jack Watts, Ricky Petterd
F: Jamie Bennell, Mark Jamar, Brad Green
FOLL: Stef Martin, Brent Moloney, Jordie McKenzie
I/C: Jordan Gysberts, Joel Macdonald, Cale Morton, Liam Jurrah
EMG: Matthew Bate, Max Gawn, Sam Blease
IN: Mark Jamar, Jordan Gysberts
OUT: Clint Bartram, Max Gawn

If avaliable would you play them, if so who would miss out?
I'd probably go...

Bennell - Davey. If his attitude has improved...

Strauss - Grimes. Hate to see Strauss go out as I think playing seniors is helping him. However if Grimes was actully not injured for a change gotta play him.

Tapscott - MacDonald. - With all the talk of D.Martin being lethal, I wish Tappy was playing this week would love to see Dustin try to run though him. Can just imagine him ironed out as tappy runs on to the next contest.:D

If Tappy and Martin collided, there would be a second big bang.
Tappy would drop Martin, stomp him for good measure then kick a beautiful 60m kick to Watts on a 40metre lead from the goal square... who in turn takes a hanger over Cotchin, planting his knee in the back of Cotchins head and concussing (not seriously injuring) him for the game.

I would drop Nicholson before Macdonald, took 8 marks in defence last week, has been very solid since his return probably on equal pegging with rivers during that time

this may mean that tappy plays forward more.... does anyone see him being able to play "pure mid" roles or just forward and back flanks?

Martin has guts and a mature body for his age, but Tappy would destroy him. Have you seen the neck on that kid?

I think it just proves how much depth we are starting to create in our list. Can only be a great thing. The improvement of Martin, Strauss, Bail, Bartram, McKenzie, Petterd, Watts etc over the last season or so has made it tough to earn a spot in the senior team. And the introduction of Scully, Trengove, Gysberts, Tappscott, Gawn, Howe, Nicholson and Evans have also pushed out players like Dunn, Bate, Warnock, Bruce.

It's time to get really excited about this group of players and the depth of class we now have. Once this side get a season or 2 playing together, and get a bit more consistency, look out! With the possible inclusions of Blease, Fitzpatrick and Cook as well, we are looking at our potential premiership team! The youth will lead the way...

Today in Media I almost threw my book at how frustrated I was at not being able to fit and choose 22 players for a side.

Then I remembered that it's a good thing :) So long as we have a good FD and selection panel, does it matter who is in? The 22 best players, referral to a structure and we're good! Depth is going to be incredible, pressure for spots the best motivator, great training/confidence/moral/atmosphere, etc.

Win. Going places.

Grimes the only certainty for mine. Sounds strange to say, but I'd want both Davey and Tapscott to re-earn their places via VFL. I think I'm more lenient on Grimes because he is really vital to our back-six set up, whereas Davey is less a structure player and more a handy mid/flanker. Also Davey needs to prove to me that he wants to be on the park.

Tapscott needs to re-earn his place just because he's still a kid and kids can lose form quickly. Would want to make sure he's raring to go before he comes back in.

Grimes yes, Tapscott yes, Davey no. I'm no fan of Flash, think he's soft and a front runner. I'm not sure what Davey and Green's contract situations are but I'm not convinced either of them will get another.

Side is looking good, loving Jamar at Full Forward.

I'd go:
B. Nicholson Frawley Strauss
HB. Garland Rivers Bennell
C. Petterd Moloney Jones
HF. Sylvia Watts Howe
F. Green Jamar Scully
R. Martin McKenzie Trengove
IC. Morton Gysberts MacDonald Jurrah (sub)

I would say yes to both Grimes & Davey but maybe give Tappy a week at Casey to get a bit of form.

I think there is a difference between a front runner & someone who is an outside player. Yes when we’re going well everyone loves him because he's such a brilliant user of the ball but because he's an outside player who's not as hard at the contest as, say Tappy or Jones he is the first one criticized when we aren't going well.

His form in 2011 has not been good but he would start in any team in the comp when in form.

If you remember, he did win a B&F when we were the worst team in the comp by a mile.

My money would be on Martin but it would be a good contest. Tappy is listed at 180cm and 87kg, Martin is listed at 187cm and 86kg.

I love that Tappy looks for contact, he's one of the few naturally aggressive players in our team. I can only think of Sylvia, MacDonald and Moloney as others who relish confrontation.

Davey & Grimes no question, these 2 are top 10 players in our team.

Tappy I would say needs to be fit in, but he's only got this season behind him. Will probably have at least one game at Casey unless we are looking to drop a player after a bad game or injury

He's been very good to date but i think one of he, Petterd or Morton need to make way for team balance/better players.
im sorry but are you on drugs? Howe is insane 12 marks in one game? For a team that is struggling to get markers, lets never ever drop him unless he deserves it, not because of a more noted players return!

This has been the problem for way too long! Dropping performing players, or who have had one rough week for a liked player... it needs to stop!

If they are a 100% fit and firing all 3 are in the best 22. Next year if we have a good run with injuries players will have perform week in week out to maintain there spot in the side. Which may see even players of Davey and Grimes quality on the chopping block if there form waivers!

The positive from this years injuries is the development of players like Howe, Gawn and Nicholson who may not have got a look in otherwise. It will hold us in good stead in building our depth for the coming years.

So by that logic you are against Gawn being dropped for Jamar?

Howe played well but in my eyes is just another mid-sized forward*. We have a plethora of his “type” ie. Dunn, Bate, Green, Jurrah, Petterd and to a lesser extent Watts and Morton. The difference I see (excluding Bate and maybe Jurrah) is that they all have other strings to their bow.

To put it in perspective though, last week I traded Howe into my Supercoach side. He is a good player and when you have depth it’s hard to fit everyone in.

What would your “best” 22 look like out of interest?

* edit. Who has only played 3 games.

Yes they are all similar, but at the moment Howe is playing football that makes him a vital part of our side, and I couldn't call for him to be dropped if we had every player on our list up and firing. If we had an AA CHF to come back in that would be the only reason to drop him. He's not playing as "just another mid-sized forward" but as a key focal point. I'm not sure how long he'll keep it up for, but I'm very happy with it at the moment.

Back to the topic, Grimes would be a walk up start. Tapscott is close but just one reasonable game at Casey is what I'd probably be after depending on the form of the others on the HBF line. Davey - I think is a walk up start. If he plays he's going to draw attention and make the side better. I think we were quick to judge him this year, and whilst he made a few mistakes I think we should remember back to last year when he was practically the difference between us winning as losing.

Clearly not going too far if all you do in an interesting class is draw team sheets.

What happened to doing that in maths class, win indeed.
