Seeing the replay of the ENG vs US game the most ridiculous thing about that goal is the commentator trying to convince himself (and maybe the viewers) that it was anything more than pure luck on Dempsey's behalf.

Hearing stuff like "He makes things happen" and "It was on target" is just cringe worthy. Kicking a dolly at the GK who just happens to be a complete spud who spills it isn't "making things happen", it's total luck.

Hahnemann played the second half against us so he might have the front running to replace Howard. From a purely selfish POV I would love to see Villa boy Guzan get a go. He's a top keeper.:thumbsu:

Isn't it the case that if the desiganated third keeper plays then one of the other two will be ineligble? If so obviously Hanhemann will play if Howard can't.

Haha yep. Was a total wtf moment when he described it as a 'great strike'.

I missed the Algeria, Slovenia game.

I obviously want England to go through, but I hope they put up a better performance than Saturday night. Dull stuff apart from Green's performance which was entertaining, even from an Englishman's point of view.

I actually like the US side. They play the game with spirit. They don't dive. They don't ask for opponents to be sent off or booked and they accept the physicality without any complaints.

I thought you were allowed to play who you like, when you like (cards permitting). The designations of who is first, second and third keeper are nothing official AFAIK.

I'll admit I didn't see the Slovenia vs Algeria match but couldn't Slovenia be a very sneaky chance of going through? They've already picked up 3 points and they beat Russia in qualification. Could they give the US a bit of competition?

[edit]. Absolutely sucks for King. Was hoping to see him play a lot this WC. I suppose this means we'll see more from that lump of shit Carragher or maybe Upson. This yet again brings me to my point where Michael Dawson should absolutely play. He's absolutely the next best CB after Terry.

Agreed. But unfortunately Capello doesn't seem to agree. I doubt Dawson will get a game unless there are further injuries (always a possibilty, mind).

My starting XI for the game against Algeria -

Green
Johnson - Terry - Upson - Cole
Barry
Lennon - Lampard - Gerrard
Crouch - Rooney

I think Capello should keep faith with Green, and I'd opt with the experience of Upson over Dawson. We all know Capello will go with Carra though which scares me, particularly after the rapeage he received from Altidore.

Barry is fit and therefore must start, and I'd play Crouch up front alongside Rooney.

I'm over experience. Form > Experience. Bring in Hart and Dawson. Keep Heskey because he was one of their better players against the US. I'd probably start Cole somewhere as well, he was very good in one of the friendlies.

What is a worry is he might get away with playing Carragher in the next 2 games, but if they get through, and face a team with pace and skill (see Germany, Argies etc), Carragher will have his arse handed to him. FFS, Altidore made him look like a complete spanner a couple of times....Altidore...not Messi.
Needs to play someone like Dawson now to get him bedded in before the KO stages.

If they play Carragher or Upson over Dawson it is a joke.

Drop Green for Hart. Capello you idiot, this squad was crying out for a quality DM and you've left the best English one back in East London.

Johnson - Terry - Dawson - Cole

I've never been a big fan of Green, but I think Capello needs to show faith in him like he did through qualifiying and in the lead-up to the World Cup. Yes he made a big mistake but he rectified it somewhat with a great save to deny Altidore in the second half.

As for leaving Parker out of the squad (I assume that's who you mean), I think either he or Huddlestone should have been in ahead of Carrick who had a pathetic season. In saying that, Gareth Barry > all of them.
