Group C consists of highly fancied England, Confederations Cup surprise package the USA and then the two less fancied teams, Algeria and Slovenia. Slovenia of course famously knocked out Russia from qualification so they could be a surprise packet.

Match times are in Australian Eastern Standard Time.

England vs United States 13 June 04:30
Royal Bafokeng Stadium, Rustenburg

Algeria vs Slovenia 13 June 21:30
Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane

Slovenia vs United States 19 June 00:00
Ellis Park Stadium, Johannesburg

England vs Algeria 19 June 04:30
Cape Town Stadium, Cape Town

Slovenia vs England 24 June 00:00
Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, Port Elizabeth

United States vs Algeria 24 June 00:00
Loftus Versfeld Stadium, Pretoria

The winner of this group faces the runner of Group D which will probably be Ghana, Serbia or Australia while the runner up will probably face Germany.

Wenger has revealed that Walcott will be in the squad for England and that is no surprise. Lennon will probably be the other RW so Milner and SWP could miss out.

Carragher is set for a shock return for England after retiring back in 2007. If I was Capello I wouldn't pick him as he has been diabolical for Liverpool this season but Capello must not trust the other options he has. I would go for Dawson or King instead.

With Carragher included England have it in the bag. The other teams might aswell not turn up.

England's provisional squad:

Goalkeepers: Joe Hart, David James, Robert Green.

Defenders: Leighton Baines, Jamie Carragher, Ashley Cole, Michael Dawson, Rio Ferdinand, Glen Johnson, Ledley King, John Terry, Matthew Upson, Stephen Warnock.

Midfielders: Gareth Barry, Michael Carrick, Joe Cole, Steven Gerrard, Tom Huddlestone, Adam Johnson, Frank Lampard, Aaron Lennon, James Milner, Scott Parker, Theo Walcott, Shaun Wright-Phillips.

Forwards: Darren Bent, Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe, Emile Heskey, Wayne Rooney.

I don't have a problem with him in the squad to be honest.

He's not going as a centre-half and he's a better full-back than both Neville's, Richards, Onuoha, Brown, Meares and the rest.

I rate Luke Young highly, but Capello can't pick somebody that isn't playing regularly.

USA squad for the Cup

Squad: Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Tim Howard (Everton), Marcus Hahnemann (Wolves); Carlos Bocanegra (Rennes), Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover), Jay DeMerit (Watford), Clarence Goodson (IK Start), Chad Marshall (Columbus Crew), Oguchi Onyewu (AC Milan), Heath Pearce (FC Dallas), Jonathan Spector (West Ham); DaMarcus Beasley (Rangers), Alejandro Bedoya (Orebro), Michael Bradley (Borussia Monchengladbach), Ricardo Clark (Houston Dynamo), Clint Dempsey (Fulham), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy), Maurice Edu (Rangers), Benny Feilhaber (Aarhus), Stuart Holden (Bolton), Sacha Kljestan (Chivas USA), Robbie Rogers (Columbus Crew), Jose Torres (Pachuca); Jozy Altidore (Villarreal), Edson Buddle (Los Angeles Galaxy), Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo), Robbie Findley (Real Salt Lake), Herculez Gomez (Puebla), Eddie Johnson (Aris Thessaloniki)

Why is Heskey there? he's done nothing this season. Surely Bobby Zamora would have been a more logical selection.

Because Heskey and Rooney have a good partnership.

I am amazed at how many people are still shocked that Heskey is in the squad. Fact is, he is probably going to start at the finals as the target man in a 4-2-3-1. Capello has shown over the last number of matches that he dosent like having Rooney as the stand-alone striker, and as such Heskey gets a gig with Rooney in behind in a semi-freerole while Lampard and Barry play as the CMs... You can argue that Carlton Cole and Crouch may be better options, or that Gerrard in behind Rooney is better, but England perform better as a team with Rooney in that position compared to having Rooney up top....

I think England win this group pretty easy. The main key is seeing whether the USA can handle the pressure of probably needing 4 points from the last two games, maybe even 6 if the results go the wrong way...

heskey was 14's to make the wc squad.. so he probally presented value to the country (Y)

Expect Carrick to be dropped from the England squad. He was dire yet again in England's 3-1 victory over Mexico. 20-30m man Milner wasn't too flash either.

King, Crouch and Johnson scored for England btw.

Surely booked in at least for a bench spot now.

that is a very hard group to get passed but i think England will go throw to the next round
