On a countback given that Paraguay progresses, so Italy 1-1 draw is perceived better than NZ's hypothetical 0-0 draw (assuming Italy draw 0-0 with Slovakia). Isn't that one of the conditions?

Italy and New Zealand are dead-level in Group F at that moment.

If Italy has a 0-0 draw with Slovakia, and New Zealand has a 1-1 draw with Paraguay. New Zealand finishes 2nd and goes through to the Final 16, Italy is then Knocked-Out.

If Italy wins 2-1 with Slovakia. New Zealand then has to win 3-2 or better to finish on top of Italy.

So effectively, if they both have a win/draw- and the goal difference is the same. Whoever has kicked more goals from all group matches, goes through.

Hopefully, Italy is knocked out.

Anyone else find it ironic that NZ has a far more realistic chance (even if it still 10-1 shot as they will likely have to beat Paraguay) of making it out of their group than we do of making out of ours, given that their group was just as tough if not tougher than ours.

Correct, Dont know that its a coin as such but yes it all comes down to the 2 games and scores, all locked up between Italy and NZ now

im taking NZ and Australia out of the equation as im looking at which group is tougher from that point of view

personally, id have rather been in our group at the start of the tournament (not by much I admit)
