Problem for Cesc was when Iniesta got injured, he wouldn't of been an adequete replacement for him as he can't play on the left. Xavi and Xabi can't either so this would of just left Villa to play there which at that stage was counterproductive.

Valid point, however he should of replaced xavi or xabi earlier.

Absolutely don't deserve to win the WC. I'd back Brazil or the Netherlands from here.

You would be wasting your $ backing Holland trust me

As much a Id like someone different Germany and Argentia have no one on their side of the group to beat

But seriously, this game will probably be akin to putting a red cloth in front of a bull to Spain. Can see them pulling the trigger a bit earlier in their remaining group games.

Good on the Switzerlanders :thumbsu:

That said, Spain were just good and bloody unlucky, even though they got away there when the Swiss hit the post.

Playing Villa on his own wasn't a great tactic but after Torres had been on for 10 minutes I though it showed already he wasn't fully fit. And Silva had a horrible game. But all in all they created enough chances.

Great game :thumbsu:

aside from the criticism though, as a neutral, i thought this game was the most entertaining of the tournament so far

I thought the South Africa v Mexico was the best. Even Brazil v N Korea was pretty good.

Unfortunately though, the majority of this World Cup has been crap.

Spain are absolutely pathetic. Torres was nothing but a useless lump of shit tonight, Del Bosque is an idiot for not bringing Fabregas on and Navas can't cross for jack shit.

Did you even watch Holland? They hardly had managed to create a decent scoring opportunity themselves until Denmark handed them a goal.

Spain were very dominant tonight and created plenty of opportunities against a very organised defense - they played 10 times better than Holland did. Holland only got their chances after Denmark had to attack themselves.

Talk about people going completely overboard because of a result . Switzerland won completely against the run of play. You reckon France, England and Italy were better than Spain? You believe Spain wouldn't have rolled the Aussies the way they were defending? I'm struggling to make up my mind about Brazil and although Argentina created plenty of opportunities, they also gave away several.

first game though, and given football in today's climate, the teams have generally come out more conservatively than a virgin's first palm on a T**ty

expect things to get more interesting this week

edit: now that everyone has played their first match, and going by the first match alone, if it wasn't for maradonna being the kim jong il of the world cup, i'd put my money on argentina

Reason being, we are seeing more and more teams 'park the bus', and it's a shame that it works so often as it does as it equals boring football. Hopefully it's due to it being the first Round as teams don't want to play catch-up rather than anything else.

Mass over reaction. The swiss were very lucky. People suggesting Pepe in for Iker? :D lol. Torres looked very rusty first touch of a rapist alot of the time. Also those bashing Navas, yeah im sure he wishes he got a few more on target, however once he came on Sergio Ramos FC no longer went into the final third, so there was no over lapping or decoy runs dragging away the defender thus allowing him to focus on Navas 100% of the time. Didn't help his cause.

Someone with some brains around here.

Mmmm Lucky goal maybe, but that coach has that defence organized to the point of not many teams could score aginst it = not luck

Holland have something Spain lack and seem to starve for. A gun wingman. David Silva showed today he's overrated and pretty shit and Navas simply isn't up to it yet. He showed promise but couldn't deliver a good cross. Holland weren't at their best against Denmark but I think that'll change when Robben comes back.

Also big concerns for Spain, their strike force looks like shit. It's unusual though, pretty much every team from Argentina, Brazil, England etc have been striking terribly. I blame the Jubilani... and the Vuvuzelas.

Lucky maybe? The ball took more deflections then a pinball. Pique was basically spooning it. Spain had more then enough chances to win the game. The swiss bus parking position is not luck however their win tonight is.

Outragous call. Check yourself call. Screw loose call.

Brazil v Spain in the 2nd round? What a joke that the #1 and #2 ranked teams would be placed in consecutive groups.

Today's result could open the door for Portugal and Ivory Coast (who could meet Italy in the quarters).
