Geez that Senderos injury looked soft. The cuddles he was getting from the coach and the trainer as he came off made it look worse.

I'm not trying to come off as some uber-tough hardman, and I've got no soccer talent whatsoever, but some of the "injuries" and "painful challenges" that have occured so far in this World Cup are absolutely laughable IMO.

I think football suffers a bit by the fact most challenges only involve legs/feet.

I've played both AFL and football and I can tell you now that getting cleaned up with a hip and shoulder can and often hurt a lot less than somebody stepping on your foot with studs on.

they look soft, but I can tell you a professional footballer running flat chat into your legs/ankles (most tender/injury prone part of the body IMO) with studs on would absolutely ****ing kill

Looking like scoring but not looking like finishing, I wonder if its why they keep appealing for penaltys

But the thing is, most of the challenges aren't like that. The tackler usually pulls out a bit for fear of giving away a free kick/getting carded/injuring their opponent, and aren't usually giving a solid hit with their leg anyway(if that makes sense). If you stood on your feet and straight-up kicked someone in the leg, it'd obviously hurt a thousand times more than an off-balance/sliding challenge without as strong/balanced power base. Obviously I'm not out there in the thick of it (although I have played soccer in the past), but the reactions that the players give just don't match up to what I'd deem most of the time to be pretty minor clips on the legs (legs that are wearing shin pads, by the way). They routinely act as if they've been shot and/or that they've had their leg broken. And that's before you even get into how easily they lose their feet during these challenges too.

I still can't believe Spain opted that spud Busquets over Senna.

Spain are demolishing them in the midfield at the moment but Villa's done nothing up forward. Methinks Torres will come on soon, probably for Busquets.

Agreed

Take Sergio off, dominating in midfield as it is.

resort to the Euro formula

Casillas
Ramos - Puyol - Pique - Capdevila
Silva - Xavi - Xabi/Cesc - Iniesta
Torres & Villa

Spain will score. Looked a lot better once they pushed the ball forward quicker later in that half. Torres not starting hurts because they've got to play the ball perfectly to score. There is no get out ball, floating balls into the box for an opportunist goal. Torres adds an extra dimension with his head, should see him or Llorente who is somewhat similar sooner rather than later. Would be Busquets for me, doesn't really offer much bar loooooooooonng legs.

This could get frustrating.

They way the hog the ball hardly anyone will score against them except maybe a Germany but if they need this many chances against the top teams they will soon find themselves in more penalty shotouts than any world cup winner of the past
