This guy is a bit of an unsung hero and always seems to slip under the radar but there is a lot of talk of him being as good as done and having only a year or so left at the club. In my opinion he has been/still is one of our most loyal servants

I couldn't stand the guy in his early days and thought he was a bit of a girls blouse but he has proved otherwise. I was watching the sirengate game recently and he was an absolute tank and probably playing his best footy around this time, and who could forget him unravelling Fev at Subi.

Just thought I would throw his name out there to see what you all think about him in general, if this is to be his last year then take note throughout the season of a guy who gives his all.....

Grover has been proving doubters wrong his entire career. He did start his career as a big girls blouse and was scared to make body contact. He almost lost his spot on the list because of it and then something just snapped with him and it all fell into place. I will always have fond memories of him toying with Fev.

2009 wasn't his best year, but McPharlin was in the same boat. Both were thrown around a bit and it affected their game. Grover is a backman, and nothing but.

I wouldn't be stating this is his last year just yet. It's a year by year thing, and I don't think anyone can comment about that without a game even being played.

pretty much spot on. however there is no doubt that grover has slowed a little, and he will be 30 next year, for a guy who has had a lot of injuries with his shoulders and playing in that position, i would expect a younger guy like silvagni or roberton to look to take over his position. there is no doubt he has been a loyal warrior for our club though, couldnt ask anything more from him

I do remember Groves doing a bit of a Duffman(early this year) a few years ago against Port (i think) but ever since then he has never shirked an issue, infact I would say he has become our most couragous player along with Sollie.
Apparently he is a very good with his fists as well !
I do agree he has lost a yard or two in pace but I still think he will play quite a few games this year ,but this will possibly be his last...he will be a handy minder for a few of the newbee's

I'll be sad to see him go when he hangs up his boots. Always been a fan.

He's been a loyal and reliable club servant and one of the most disappointing things about some sections of our fanbase on here is the way they turn on club stalwarts like him once they near the end.

It's fine to discuss whether he's aging and slowing down too much to hold his spot, but some people need to show a bit more respect for a guy who's given his all for our club for the last decade.

Yeah I remember a post about someone asking Grover how he felt going into his last year or something along those lines and apparently Groves wasn't too pleased.

I don't think there is a lot of crap being posted. I'd say Grover is one of the most popular players among the board generally though there always a few armchair experts and knockers. However last year was pretty ordinary and given his age and slowing down, there is a question mark over his ability to continue. Whether it was a bad year, bad coaching or he has lost his mojo will be seen in 2010. I'm a big fan and would like to see him get it together again and finish on a high note.

A good honest hard working footballer.

One of the first picked every week.

Yes I have been a bit mystified with a number of supporters on here writing Grover off. He still has a very important job to do down back, leave him there and let all the "pretty boys" loose in the forward line.

Grover is a player who seems to give 100% of his available talent, pity some of the more "talented" didn't have the same work ethic.

And to be honest, with guys like Tarrant/McPharlin down back, who are both pretty quick boys, Grover shouldnt really be played on the speedsters anyway, as thats not the sort of defender he is.

Has anyone got some sprint times that i could look at?

Drum was an excellent example of this. All the gifts of football skill in the world but ZERO application. Grover was the first player that got picked to play on guys like Fev and did the best damn job he could, if Grover did a great job then Fev was having a crap game of was injured. If Fev had a good game then it was all Grovers fault. Talk about a thankless position, especially when you had the volume of inside 50's that he had to deal with. Lets be honest, Freo are not famed for their skilled disposal and midfield pressure.

Anothert reason to celebrate why Taz's 2009 season was SO outstanding, it is time that the rest of the team begins to help out the backline. We are getting better with a greater group of skilled players but the majority are young.
Complaining about Grover is like looking back in time and saying that S.Parker was not good enough in his backman role. That for me is a bench clearing comment.

Defending is the most thankless position that there is, no matter what the recognition goes to the midfield or forwards. Great teams are built on a solid defensive base. It is time that we said; Excellent work Grover! I hope that 2010 is even your best ever year.

ON the other hand, it is the right thing to lose players like Warnock and Drum who constantly complain without showing the rest of the AFL world their skills in the maggos. Reward for effort and playing a TEAM game is what our club should be based on. that is why I love players like DeBoer, Palmer and Mayne. They give everything. I was a huge critic of Taz before 2009. With the awesome efforts that he made, I am now a massive fan.

It is time to love the Grover. Not take cheap shots at such a hard worker for the club. Things will finally be getting better for him and the team from this point on.

The recasting Grover as a forward early last season was one of the more bizarre notions we have seen coming from a coaching panel. Whether this was responsible for Grover's slide in form for the whole season I do not know. He definitely looked like a player on the slippery slopes though. In our final game at home however he appeared to have recovered some of his zest and looked more like his old self. Could easily be his last season coming up though.

Well said Docker 1.

I would love to be at the leadership groups meetings and see one specific "leader" look in Antoni's eye's and say he has given 100%. Yes one of those talented ones who I reckon would not know what 100% felt like.

Geez it is so easy for the 100% players to be ridiculed. eg. Parker, McManus, Cook etc.

Members of the 100% club. Good to see Im not the only one who thinks Grover deserves to be in there, hope he has a cracking year.

Can play on the gorillas like Gehrig, Hall, Lockett etc and hold his own and the switch onto the smaller forwards and match them with speed and agility.
Bleeds purple and never gives less than 100%.
If we had another 21 like him on the pitch each week we would already have had that allusive flag.
Love him deeply.

Yep, sure can, gets bags kicked against him while holding his own too. Having him playing consistently is why we have been poor defensively for so many years.

Of course that would have nothing to do with the midfield dominance of the opposition.
Langford, Silvagni and numerous top line fullbacks have all had bags kicked on them. He is not in their class but he is most certainly not the spud that you are making him out to be.

He's a bigger spud than Ryan Murphy, but atleast he shows commitment.
