I think you better read what I said again, and brush up on your history.

Aussie Rules was invented IN Australia. Australia has no real international influence (in terms of population and/or geography) and hence it is virtually impossible for anythign invented here to "take over" other areas where sports are cultually entrenched.

If the game we call Aussie Rules was NOT invented here and was invented IN England, by English people LIVING IN ENGLAND, then the game would obviously spread (in some capacity anyway)

Given that you're an Aussie, what do you have against AR anyway?
Yep, a nsw guy over in England was watching the school children play a strange game at lunch time, he then came back to Australia, the rest is history.

oh, and just after that, the game died in England :p

It was a game to keep cricketers fit in the offseason, hahahahaha, so it was played to help out another sport, hahahahahaha.:D

Yep, the game was originally inended to keep cricketers fit in the off-season. That indigenous game is now the country's biggest code.

Does it make you proud to be an Australian?

How does this make a difference? Please explain because you're clutching at straws.
You were comparing crowds at a ground that has a tiny capacity to crowds at a ground with a much larger capacity. Actually I don't know that comparison is being made. Why did you bring it up?

We were comparing A league crowds of two teams that have large stadiums in the two biggest Australian cities. Both teams have been successful. In Sydneys successful year they got average crowds. In Melbournes successful year they got huge crowds.

This thread was originally an NRL AFL comparison when the thread changed to mention that Sydney people attend sport in exactly the same way that Melbourne people do. I brought the A league up to highlight that this appears to be incorrect.

I think it's interesting that this post was sidestepped for nearly 100 posts:

How you cannot acknowledge that AFL requires a higher skillset to play is beyong me.

Let's weight them up:

League

-Throw ball backwards left
-Throw ball backwards right
-catch uncontested ball from close distance
-occasionally catch uncontested ball from far distance
-occasionally catch contest ball after high kick into try zone
-kick into touch
-kick into try area
-Kick for field goal
-kick from set shot
-tackle
-dodge

AFL
-Ruck contest
-handpass rather than throw ball
-handpass in all directions rather than just backwards
-handpass with both hands
-continuously be under pressure from 360 degrees
-catch ball often from long distance
-catch contested ball
-kick with both feet
-kick to moving targets
-kick at goal without place kick
-kick regularly under pressure from 360 degree
-bounce ball whilst running whilst under pressure from 360 degrees
-tackle people who are running at you very fast
-control an oval shaped ball that is coming at you from much further away, at greater speed, and under far more pressure more often
-run at full speed in short sharp bursts regularly
- run 20km+ every game (not all players)
- read the play from a 360 degree perspective

Do you get the picture? Do you now acknowledge that AFL requires more skill?
Do you leaguies have anything to say? Or do you want to let this one go through to the keeper again?

So is cracking jokes an admission of defeat? I take it you're not Australian, by the way? When did you move to our country?
Dan dan dan

What makes you think I'm not 100 percent Dinky die Aussie?

Because I don't like AFL?

Well that could be put to over half the population then, couldn't it? :D

You sidestepped my reply. Take another look, or you want to ignore it again because it doesn't suit your arguement.

You miss the most important one ,the dribble from start to end.:p
So I can assume you agree that AfL requires mre skill. Make sure you don't conveniently forget it when debating with someone else down the track. It's a pretty obvious and simple concept. Doesn't mean AFL is necessarily better - just requires more skill.

Really helps if you have those mauling skills I noticed that you refered to as a skill. If you ever read my reply to your post, then you will realise why you must be a star.

How many BF Aussie Rules fans regularly cruise the Rugby board looking for "we are better than aerial ping pong threads"?:D

I would expect not many, but the no-necks are here in an instant.

CASE CLOSED, game set and match!:thumbsu:
