It should be noted that at least a couple of the above are more a case of wishful thinking. Here's hoping that 2017 can mop up a bit of 2016's unfinished business.
Sting is on my wishful thinking list...

I got mine fixed yday .

$480 later.

We switched ours off on Oct 4th due to a burning smell coming through the ducts. Fifty billion calls and several heatwaves later we still have no A/C. A bloke attended this morning to take away the motor once again for reconditioning. I'm quickly heading into Jack Tortence from The Shining mode around the house in the interim.

I called 15 places this morning to get someone around today for a repair. After multiple fails I managed to secure the last bloke in Melbourne without a job by bribing him with a slab of beer. Given everyone else is booked for up for a week, I assume I've secured the crappest repair man in Melbourne. He is certainly the most expensive. I reckon I'll give your $480 a serious nudge Gaso and still end up sleeping in the back yard.

The part was $350. A valve was worn out.

So I've just been told a need a compressor replaced, which will cost $15k and I'm better off just replacing the system for $25k. Fortunately, I'll have lots of time to wonder whether I'm being shafted while I'm not sleeping tonight.

Wait $1500 and $2500.

Buy a new one if you can afford it but put up with it until next summer so you can buy the top of the range?

No, really, $25,000 - i.e. more expensive than my car! I think they're planning to charge the insurance company so figure they can charge what they want.
