It’s a Christian holiday ruined by commercialism.

Not me. I'm sick of all the complaining about Christmas and have past movies like 'Love Actually' and 'Jingle all the way' should be banned because of sexist behaviour. Or that Christmas is offensive to other religions. Or that people now want Santa to be gender neutral. Or that coke is turning our kids into "fat Basta%rds" - Nah not having it.

-I'm stuffing our santa with the biggest pair of socks I own so he looks like Matt Shirvington
-I'm going to drink coke at Christmas. Not because I enjoy it, just so when all the kids ask I can say "no - here is some water" because it is adults that provide for children...not coke.
-I'm going to wear a Christmas hat
-I'm going to sing religious Christmas carols
-I'm going to give my 4-year old nephew coal just so I can see his reaction...then I'll give him his proper present.
-I'm going to pinch my wife's arse without asking...

Does anyone ever actually do this? We always hear about it, and have for decades but its still the same old Christmas. Just with more lights in the 'burbs.

You can pry Christmas from my warm, overindulged hands!!!

We do but the noise is always getting louder and louder and it's only a matter of time especially in today's climate.

Santa and the Easter bunny will be removed from schools in a few years I have no doubt.

The feck is sexist about Love Actually?
You don't want to know...

This is an old one but there were a number of articles last year and this year pointing out a few issues. Even - "we analysed the script and males have more lines in the movie". :drunk:

Crazy how far people can take it.

WTF is sexist about Love Actually?
Overly earnest feminist deconstructions aside, some of the storylines are ordinary - in particular the creepy guy stalking Keira Knightley - and the female characters by and large exist as prizes to be won by the male protagonists (yes there are exceptions, don't @ me).

Our family still watch and enjoy it every year but it's not without some uncomfortable moments. Some of the criticism is OTT IMHO (like the idea that Colin Firth's character only develops feelings for the housekeeper when he sees her in her undies - they spend a month together in the house and it gets about 10 minutes on screen) but I understand why some people don't like it.

Ohhh okay.

My rose tinted nostalgia glasses are really dangerous.

Not @ing you to get a response so don't read. Merely highlighting the simplistic viewpoints people have when reading the garbage breakdowns.

I don't like the Rickman story but as Firestarter said - it happens. People cheat. If anything that entire storyline is pro women. Rickman is seduced by the temptress and wins. Highlighting the power women have over men. Shit, this is highlighted in the bible when eve gives some of the forbidden apple to adam.

I don't think there is anything "creepy" or "stalking" about Rick Grimes. He likes his best friends wife (that's an issue and even more so that she's so eager to kiss him). He really liked her so he edited a wedding video so it was only her. That's up there with me cutting Sarah Michelle Gellar pics out of my sister's Cosmo when I was 8 and glueing them on my bedroom wall or making a cassette for a girl I liked in high school.

The little boy learns the drums just so that he can impress a young girl at his school. Excellent. Highlights how far some will go for love. Some animals have a mating call, others do a dance...we do it too. I don't want a girl to walk up to me while I'm making coffee and say "want to be my boyfriend?" Nah. Not having it. Woo me and I'll do my best to always woo you back.

People take offence that that prime minister's assistant has two jokes made about her weight in the movie (one by her dad). Can't have that. No one does that in modern society. I've been calling people fat for decades, it's just that I'm smarter and reference the BMI. Or "why would she fall for him? what because he's the prime minister?" - yes, looking past the fact that people like to go for celebrities and those with more money etc., maybe she is attracted to a person that is motivated and clearly has his head switched in. I could date a checkout lady at Coles or I could date a medical doctor. I'd probably be more inclined to date the doctor, not because of money but most likely because that tells me they are determined and want the best for themselves.

The prizes stem from the attitude that a male must make the first move and win the girl. That has happened for aeons and apparently, now the feminists have an issue with it. Guaranteed if you did a survey of people between the age of 18-30 the vast majority would say it's still the male's job to ask out the female or make the first move.

****. These are two of our most important religious icons right there.
I think that's the point. Jesus is banned and therefore we have fun characters designed to spread joy. Religion keeps a lot of people in check and Santa keeps kids in check. How many parents say "be good or santa won't bring you presents" or the look of joy kids get around those times of the year. Easter egg hunts etc. WHY WON'T ANY ONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!!

And then there's the "if he's ugly I don't want to know him, if he's good looking hubba hubba" attitude but I'm letting my misogny creep out...

But I'm a dumb, ugly €€€€ (tm Jim Jeffries) who doesn't want a relationship so I'm projecting like a loser. :p

Dissecting Love actually.. never thought I'd see that on a footy site !

I hope we never see the day we cant celebrate and laugh at the differences between men and women, religions whatever. The differences are part of the kaleidoscope of life
Some of the stuff now has just reached idiotic proportions
