F***ing Jetstar have delayed my flight to Hobart. Way to stuff up my lunch plans.

On the plus side, won't be heading to the airport in peak hour traffic now.

****en rain.

We had tickets to see Radio Birdman in Brisbane tonight and couldn't find a way thru.

That's a lifetime dream I once thought I'd never see happen, then thought would actually happen, denied by the campaignering rain.

Yeah i first heard that song in the 80 sometime, the first time I ever tuned to 102.7 on the fm dial iirc. First Birdman song I ever heard and it just blew me away.

That drive last night was wild. Thru the Tweed valley there were times when the river was less than a metre below the road and churning. I was in the passenger seat and less than 10 feet away was a river in full flood churning worse than Gaso's tummy.

Sometimes you get a sense when you're heading out on a mission. Things start to go a bit weird and then that atmosphere builds and you get the sense that this mission is doomed. I've had it a few times over the years and its pretty accurate. Massive sense of that last night as we headed off. Hadn't seen the sun all day but as we left the sky in the west turned blood red for a little while. And the eastern sky went very dark very quickly.

That's another great band btw - the Eastern Dark. Long gone now but you can still listen to them on youtube. Pretty sure Rob Younger produced some of their music. Including this:

That is pop punk perfection.

Blink 182 can EAD.

Chasers nightclub in Chapel St used to have Hard n Fast night every Wednesday, which I frequented, and Radio Birdman's "Aloha Steve and Danno" would pump through their huge sound system and the joint would go off ferball. On some occasions I'd see band members at another old haunt, Razor, which was at the old Light Car Club of Vic on a Friday night only, kicking off post midnight. Magnificent, albeit extremely hazy, memories!

Reminds me of a Birdman song.

Yes. Yes, they can.

Weird (and weirdly topical) that you should mention The Eastern Dark, too, given that the band's short-lived career was torn asunder by the lead singer dying in a car accident.

Anyhoo, just for further educational purposes, here's the killer b-side to one of the greatest singles ever released in this country.

(And yes, Rob Younger did produce some of their work.)

Hard'n'Fast. Yep. My last year of high school was 1987. That Wednesday night thing started at just the right time.

That brings back some great memories. Sometimes girls would wear tight jeans that they'd somehow turned into suspenders and stockings. I can still see a couple in my mind's eye now all these years later.

And Razor ... opposite the golf course ... yeah very hazy memories at that. usually at some pub - Punters Club, Prince of Wales, GB, Union, Tote etc till they kicked us out then we'd somehow find our way. Used to live in Union st prahan so it was always a quick roll home.

Faaarrrrrrkkkkkk That was soooo long ago.

I had some great times at and in the hours after Chasers on a Wednesday night. I worked at the Tok H during 1991. That was an ordeal (with some fringe benefits), we'd get paid on Wednesdays and the daytime bar chicks would always look after us. Then we wouldn't spend any of our pay on anything naughty and go partying till we had to start work on Thursday night.

Then they started opening the club on Wednesday night. campaigners.

Forced to sit on a cigar through a 15-minute train ride and a 20-minute walk to public toilets in a plaza because the station toilets were closed. I'm paying for it with pain for the rest of the day.
