Years ago I used to be the postie for Brodie Harper .... she has the best ponytail ever to follow
Believe it or not my wife mentioned Brodie while we were having tea. We were discussing the famous celebrities of Frankston. There's the walk of fame down behind the Pier Hotel and the new walk of fame up near Dummies (which is closed down now).

Is the walk of fame like Lovers Lane near South Yarra Station?

Had a mate from my old footy club who came to fix a leak I'd sprung. I'd dug a hole around the pipe for access and my mate rocked up with his apprentice. He took a look, told his apprentice to set to, then stood there with the coffee I'd built him - though he had declined the same offer for his apprentice. 10 minutes later the job is done, coffee is gone, and he still slugged me $140 for the pleasure of his company. Not after a freebie, but wow!

Anyway, perhaps 3 years later, this bloke had left the club, to be replaced by a more likeable chap. Told me he'd be there at 4 - I said I'd be there just after 4. I got there at 4, hole had been dug, pipe replaced, hole filled in and plumber had long since gone. I called and he said he's day had opened up ....... cost me a slab. Needless to say the Likeable chap is now my go to.
Slab economy is the best economy in the universe.

Bag of buds economy probably on par.

Believe it or not, it's less scary. Lovers walk along the train line in SY is not a place to be after dark. Having said that I would not hang out near Frankston station after dark.

Frankston has the walk along Kananook CK behind the 21st century dance club with plaques listing local celebs and another for some reason near a car park.

Dunno about new ones but old ones (pre 2010) are great.
The new ones appear to come with an exemption from the need to follow road laws, don't seem to be fitted with indicators and the rear view mirrors are simply fitted as decorative attachments.

Pisses me off the Grumpy thread isn’t on the main board

And the rest they moved

All I wanted was some grace over summer; leave the threads as they are and then Feb 1 or watever move them across

Boring af the main board

And we’re talking about Sharks in the Pre Season thread ffs

Says it all

Is it true that those " welcome to country " extravaganza's cost seventeen grand a throw ? i realise that you get nothing for nothing these days, but that seems a tad expensive to me.
No.

There is a vast difference in what a Welcome to Country entails.

I've been at events where someone makes a 2-3 minute speech, and that's it. And then you have larger, more elaborate ones - ultimately what the Welcome to Country involves is at the discretion of whoever is doing the hiring, and if you want something that involves some kind of ceremony, with multiple people involved, then why shouldn't they charge whatever they deem appropriate.

I stumbled upon this today, it's the guide put out by the National Association for the Visual Arts.

They recommend a Welcome to Country being between $300 and $750, and a Smoking Ceremony $700 to $1,500.

The NAVA rates are used by local councils I've dealt with in different categories, so those figures are a good guide.

That's a long way south of $17,000.

I wonder what Dermie or Kayno charge for a speaking engagement at a corporate function etc. I've been to a few corporate breakfasts where ex-AFL people like David Parkin give a bit of a rev-up to inspire better performance from those in the team and I'm guessing he doesn't get out of bed for under $1500.

Dermott Brereton is between $5,000 and $10,000. Expenses would be on top of that.

David Parkin is just listed at less than $5,000.

I'd settle for a Welcome to Country. Parkin tells the same stories every bloody time. Even the rusted on whorethorne supporters have heard them so many times they fall asleep.
